The answer is to drive the car less. Plan your trips so they are multi-task. You should also car pool or share the diving task whenever possible.
This will not only make owning the car more environmentally friendly, it could actually save you money.

Okay, first, drop the idea of Ethonal it's a waste of time. There are three big problems with ethonal.
1. If we all converted tomorrow to Ethonal vs. Gas, not only would we have to clear several thousand acers to grow that much corn, (2) the cost of corn would shoot sky high and really cause mass starvation around the world.
3. Ethonal Cannot replace diesel fuel and you use more diesel making ethonal than what you create.
Now, be pratical. Obey the speed limit, you burn less fuel at 55-60mph than you do when you idle. Avoid, if possible, roads that have lots of stops (i.e. red lights).
Interstate driving is acutually more effecient than driving at 35mph in the city. and you get better milage on the interstate.

Did you ever notice how you get better gas mileage on a rainy day your motor just seems a little perkier ? Well that's because water makes steam when hot steam is pressure same way they ran the old steam engines . You can create the same effect just take an old coffee can with a plastic lid put 2 small holes in the lid take a small rubber hose and put it through one of the holes so that it will go to the bottom of the can now take another small line and put it in the other hole but you don't want it to go into the water just about a 1/4 inch into the lid run that hose to a vacuum line on your intake . That simulates a rainy day and it will not hurt your motor no more the a rainy day will and make sure you check the water level depending on how much you drive . Oh fill the can to 3/4 full with water
Believe it or not it helps and every little bit helps .

There is a conversion now to convert your engine to run off
reprocessed cooking oil
the stuff they fry french fries in at all the fast food shops
the cost per gallon is about $1.25 emmisions are very clean
rated same as propane conversions but safer fuel
the conversion can cost as much as $3000
figuring about $2.00 per galloon saved its gonna take a few years to save back the investment
however if Gas keeps going up the savings increase
and time to break even goes down
in the meantime you arent polluting the air with fossil fuel
products
Some states offer grants to convert vehicles you can
call your state DMV and ask about that may be better
to walk in so you can find an employee that will check
if they dont know. Or go to the State DMV website.
Call your congressmans office or assemblyman ask them
if there is a grant program for green fuel conversion in your state.
Anyways if there is no OLD OIL fuel dealer in your area
Heck of a chance to start one. Its growing fast and there
arent any FUEL shortages so many fast food locations
cooking in deep fryers

Using ethanol starves the Mexican peasants. Use gasoline instead.
Your emissions are reduced only by one thing= parking the car.
Sure, some of the above steps may stretch your mileage by 1/10th a mile a gallon, but if you are putting in 25 gallons a week, at a weight of 6.75 pounds per gallon, you are burning 8,775 pounds per year. Thats more than a ton of junk blowing into the air.

That's really good that another being cares about the world; anyways, one simple thing when it's a hot day or something, open your windows when you're going below 50 mph, but if you're going more than that, using your air conditioner is better because it will cause less drag than open windows, which all in all will saves some gas

Driving habits have a great effect on the level of emissions and fuel efficiency of the car.
-Drive in a higher gear at lower revs
-Avoid travelling at higher speeds as this is less fuel efficient
-Change gears less often
-Cut down on using the heating and air conditioning
