My friends and I go camping up that way a couple times a year, but we were looking for someplace we haven't been yet. We've been to water's creek a few times and love it there, but we want to try something new. We are also looking for something besides the basics of the state parks. Thanks.

Try the Chatooga river area where GA borders SC almost in NC. Nice foresred, fishing and some rafting in the river. I used to camp there some years back.

Around the Ga. mtns they have a couple of Ga. State Parks. We have been in there and they are real nice. There is one around Helen that has a big lake. Or you can go on PC and look up Campground in Ga. and get some hits that way. You can also pick up a Ga. State Park book at the office of a state park.

Don't remember the name of it, but it is at the most northern end of GA or US441 in GA

ladybug9470, are you talking about McRae State Park down by Helena? If so, did they finally clean up the lake?

Check out http://www.recreation.gov/ it's a government site that has all the campgrounds in America. It's great for gathering info and making reservations.
