I've been working out the past month. I dont do olympic style weight lifting, but do like to mix heavy weight with my workouts. Pro bodybuilder Kris Dim suffered aorta tear this past month and kind of worried me a little. Im 25 years old,I dont use illegal steroids, or have any medical history of heart problems.

As long as it's all you, that is you don't use drugs to get big like steroids, then it's healthy for your heart to be doing that. Lifting weights mixed together with running or walking every day, along with other workout plans make you live longer not shorter. You wont damage your heart, you're actually making it stronger each and every time.

Everyone should do more for themself like you're doing.

The main issue ( other then steroids ) is that you start small and work your way up and then stick to a goal. Always start with something easy and then slowly build up. Alot of people jump into lifting things that are to heavy to fast and that's how they hurt themself.

The general rule is that if it 'burns' it's good (as in you do ten reps and your arms feel warm and tired this is good, you take a break and do ten more and then you're really tired, you wait a day and do the same but this next time you aren't so tired.)

However if it hurts then it's bad, might sound silly to say but a lot of people don't realize there is a difference between working out to make things better and working out and hurting. If it hurts at any point then you should stop.

People do more faster by working out only until tired, then those who work out until it hurts. The reason is that when you work out until you hurt things like the aorta tear you talk about happen, and also if it hurts you pulled something and your body has to fix that before it can build up anything else.

It can.

Do a good 15-20 minute cardio workout involving all muscle groups prior to weight work.

NEVER hold your breath during a lift or lowering. If anything, breath more to get extra oxygen during a heavy lift. Eat healthy so your arteries remain flexible.
