I say yes! The U.S. was in an all out war with Japan. The Japanese were brutal warriors who often tortured and killed their captives, such as beheading U.S. POWs or death marches (Battaan). The Japs also sent air ballons to kill American civilians here. The Japs also didn't believe in surrendering, and would have fought all out if the U.S. had invaded the mainland of Japan. So, with such a brutal enemy that would have killed perhaps millions of American soldiers in an invasion, and with the availability of a new weapon, the A-Bomb that could save American lives and shorten the war, the dropping of the bombs was JUSTIFIED! Heck, even with the dropping of the bombs, the Japanese military did not want to surrender. It was the Emperor who finally decided to surrender.

I want to add a few things here. You cannot win a war against a brutal enemy without killing civilians. There is no way we could have defeated Japan by trying to spare their civilians. Plus, the ultimate responsibility for the loss of Japanese civilian lives belongs to the Japanese themselves! You start an all out war, then you put you civilians at risk, because you cannot separate the government and military, plus the civilians who are building weapons from all the other more innocent civilians. As far as any accusations that America was racist against Japanese in WWII, I say tough luck, because the Japanese were very racist themselves, and after bombing Pearl Harbor, what would you expect the Americans to fell about the Japanese?....Hate of course.
And remember, the U.S. went in there and helped rebuilt Japan, and not to destroy after to war ended.

The two atomic bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagisaki not only saved American lives, it also saved many Japanese lives.
How, pray tell, could using two weapons of that destructive magnitude save lives?
Intimidation.
During the invasion of Iwo Jima, the American leaders noticed a disturbing trend among the Japanese, both military and the few remaining civilians on the island. They were all fighting to the death, even against hopeless odds, to the point of drawing their swords when they were out of ammo.
Such a ferocity had never been seen before, and it worried the American Generals. They believed that if they launched an invasion of Japan proper, it would be the bloodiest series of battles (and biggest immortal assault) in the history of our country - with our soldiers fighting street-by-street and town-by-town against Japanese soldiers and civilians alike.
It was because of the battle of Iwo Jima that it was decided to use Fat Man and Little Boy against the Japanese. The intimidating effect of entirely wiping out two cities with just two weapons (the Japanese didn't know we only had two bombs) achieved the desired effect of intimidating the Japanese Emperor into surrendering, for fear of more atomic bombings.
As such, the use of atomics was very justifiable and saved countless lives on both sides of the conflict.

At the time, it was felt that if the U.S. invades Japan, they could suffer over a million casualties.
This was one of the main reasons Harry Truman gave the go ahead for it to be dropped.
Remember at that time they could only guess how much death and destruction would occur.
It was after the war, that people began to second guess, and become moralistic about it (Hind sight being 20-20 and all)
I would never want to see it dropped again, But yes it was the right decision at the time.

Had we not dropped two nukes on Japan, the war would have continued for at least another year. And had we fought the Japanese for another year, many more American soldiers would have died. We must put our troops' lives ahead of the lives of our enemies; and therefore, dropping a nuke on Japan - for the purpose of ending the war and hence saving the lives and many American soldiers - was justified.

A CONSERVATIVE estimate said that one and a half million soldiers would have died if Japan had been invaded. 10 million japanese soldiers and civilians would have died as well. Both A bombs only killed about 140,000 people. That number does not even COMPARE to almost 12 million!

Atom bomb was no solution to that war..Americans can say thay they were justified as every thing is fair in war..But Sir..Did you ever felt that what is the crime of those coming generations who are suffering from that till now...! the politicians commit the crime and innocent public suffers....! If Japanes were not good , even america was not an angel!!both were equaly guilty !I am neither japanes nor american..But i must say,,, please Don't feel proud of that destruction that was brought by your country to millions of innocent people and their generations who are born with major disabilities and their fault was that they were ruled by wrong prople..!You can't do anything good to them But atleast can feelsorry for the stupidity of your politicians !

Yes...the Japanese finally surrendered. War is ugly and all it encompasses but it has been a part of history for millions of years, in some form or another.

I don't know about it being justified, but if they didn't the war 2nd WW would of lasted alot longer. And there is nothing wrong of being all-out, shows how devoted they are to their country (i myself would cry like a little pussy if i saw the US army approaching). But when it comes down to it, i am thankful for what the A-bomb accomplished.

Let's just say we lost the moral high ground, but it had its effect. Did you know more people died in the incendiary attacks on Tokyo and other Japanese cities than the 2 nuclear attacks combined? Just thought you'd like to know.

Looking back considering the PC climate of the world NO
Reality we can't go back but we can learn from it.
That there are going to be times when it needs to be used.
We have to really think it though before we drop another one.
