There are all kind of things you get at wal mart. You need watch out for gelatin and cheese made with rennet. Some cheeses that don't have animal rennet are Horizon Organics and Annie's Mac and Cheese dinners (these are great, wayyy better than Kraft and no horomones. Before I went vegan I ate them all the time).
My favorite thing you can get at wal mart is Thai Kitchen. They have microwavable noodle bowls, noodle carts and boxed noodle kits. Try out Amy's snacks, burritos, pizzas and soups too. All of Amy's products are vegetarian. You can get all kinds of pre-packaged fruits and veggies too, like Paul Newman baby carrots in individual bags, apple slices, etc. Or you can go for whole produce of course. Basically just read the labels, you'll be surprised at all the yummy food that is vegetarian. Just stay away from the meat section, deli and be cautious in the frozen food section. Good luck with your shopping!

Congratulations on going vegetarian!
I've never been in a wal-mart, and am surprised to know they sell groceries.
First go to where they keep canned food. Buy lots of beans- you can eat them in a salad, or cook them in burritos, or make hummus... add them to a stir-fry... put them in soups and stews... In the states I've heard a 15-oz can of chick peas is around 50 cents so you'll have cheap, really good food- beans are full of iron, which you might want to look out for, and fiber, which keeps you healthy.
Then cruise the frozen-food section. Look for veggie burgers, frozen vegetables and fruits, maybe pre-made burritos... Those... I don't know how much they'd cost, since I live in Canada and prices are pretty inflated here.
Get some vegetarian soup stock. It's really great for adding flavour when you're cooking stuff like tofu in a stir fry, and much better for you than adding a lot of oil.
Then maybe you should buy some soy milk? It'll probably be a bit more than an equivalent amount of cow's milk.
Go to the bulk section, and buy lots of nuts, especially walnuts. They're excellent for you. Get brown rice, which is pretty cheap and very filling and so good for you! So much better than white rice. Whole grains are usually the same price or just a bit more than the white kind, and they're more delicious, more filling, and more nutritious.
Then go WILD in the produce section! Buy anything that looks good, especially bright orange stuff and dark green or purple stuff. Today I bought a humongous bag of produce for such a cheap price that even I was surprised. I got purple kale- excellent in minestrone soup, steamed, in stir fries, or added to pasta sauce, orange peppers, carrots, a peach, a mango, bananas, nectarines, pears, apples, zucchini, mixed salad, roma tomatoes, beets with the tops still on (so I can use the leaves for other meals), a cucumber, fresh ginger, an onion, some baby potatoes, and finally broccoli (always look for purple florets, they're best for you).
I am going to eat like crazy for a long time. <3

Well you will have to read ingredients to make sure there are no beef, chicken or pork stocks and other by products (like gelatin). Try Vegweb.com for good basic recipes and consider doing more shopping at local mini markets that get their veggies from local sources. If you can get a grill it is a great way to make all kinds of fun and fabulous dishes. I don't like most of the "vegetarian" cuisine type of foods and instead opt for cultural foods that are naturally vegetarian. Middle Eastern, Indian, Spanish and French all have really good and simple foods that have great flavors and aren't particularly tricky. If you are going to eat eggs and cheeses there are a plethora of tasty tidbits and legumes are a a treasure trove of taste and protein. I just got this cookbook called "Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant" it is a wealth of delicious and nutritious vegetarian foods. Good Luck!

If you live in a place where there is a co-op or natural food store like Whole Foods or Wild Oats they are the best places to shop. Unfortunately, if you live somewhere like I do and those places are not just around the corner, there are alternatives in Walmart or your local grocery store. Walmart offers Morningstar, Boca, GardenBurger, Amy's and Annie's products as well as Silk Milk and some other organic and vegetarian fare. Some of my favorites are Morningstar Prime Grillers, Boca Chick Patties, Morningstar bacon and sausage.

For vegetarian meats try Morningstar farms, they make good everything. Garden burgers taste great and so do their breakfast burritos and BBQ ribs. Boca has good chicken sandwhiches and ground beef but I wouldn't touch anything else by them unless you want to throw up. Amy's makes delicious vegetarian pizza's, burrito's, lasagna, mac n cheese, mexican bowls (I'll eat all day), rice and veggies, enchilladas, matar paneer, and other things. Stock up on plenty of fresh veggies to eat raw or steam, whole rain rice, and soy milk. You can experiment with tofu too. I like to mix with yakisoba noodles (aslo found at some walmarts) and zuccini grilled. You can also blend silken tofu with strawberries or chocolate for a great milkshake. Bananas and oatmeal are really good for you too.

Anything from Amy's Kitchen is SOOO GOOD. Morning Star fake chicken nuggets and such are really good too. I eat these because I don't like Boca Burgers.

try going to trader joe' thats were i go
i am curious as to why you became a vegetarian, you seem a little clueless
oh and be careful about reading labels on the food, anything with "natural flavor" on it means that it could possibly contain animal products in it.

nuts are great replacement for meat. Walnuts and almonds are good in recipes and just for a snack. Peas, frozen or fresh. Peanuts are good but higher in cal. and fat. Good luck
