Since the smoking ban went into affect where I am I've only gone out a couple times. One of the places was in a community where they had pushed for a smoking ban of their own. I can say for this place the smoking ban didn't hurt it and the smokers I was with simply stepped outside. I could not believe how nice it was to walk out of this place and not smell like smoke! I was able to put the same clothes back in my closet to wear later in the week instead of the wash.

I think everyone just needs to chill the hell out, talking about this ban over and over again is just dramatising it and making it a battle between smokers and non smokers. It doesnt have to be this way, a law has been put into place to protect the majority and to hopefully reduce the number of smokers. I dont think this 'war' between smokers and non smokers is even happening anywhere else other than on yahoo answers, people that i have spoken to have welcomed it smokers and non smokers alike and i think the more people rant about it the more out of proportion it becomes.

i think all this smoking ban is asking for trouble as we are not allowed to smoke in pubs and clubs and as every one know when you have a few drinks and then you would go out side to have a *** but there is going to be lots of people on the streets starting arguments and fights and why cant we smoke at train stations they are open so the smoke goes very quickly I'm a mum who dont smoke where kids will breath it in so i agree with all other places eg eating and that but this train station stuff is silly and the pubs and clubs are trouble and there should be non smoking and smoking places its our right to smoke if we want its ok for non smokers as they will never go cold like us smokers will just because we need a ***

"which is worse
non-smokers causing arguments
or smokers causing death from lung cancer "
Well, let's see; cars pumping out noxious gasses everywhere you go. Drunken youths stabbing all and sundry. Drug crazed lunatics killing for their next fix. Popular music exhorting people to go out and cause mayhem. Religious fanatics blowing themselves and everyone else away. People carrying and using guns as a fashion accessory. Racial hatred. Chemical by-products from the manufacture of the stuff you use every day ejected into the atmosphere, land and water.
Or higher taxes because of the decline in smokers or the decline in pub goers because they can't smoke. Who will these higher taxes hit I wonder; the rich? Oh well, we'll tax fuel some more. Who will pay for the obese, the liver diseased and the addicted? Not the smokers any more, that's for sure.
*Rant over*

I totally agree with severange on this. Why not concentrate a bit more on drug related deaths, alcohol abuse and drunken fights? These are real problems in the World that will get even more out of hand if we keep getting deprived of what has always been natural and normal to us like lighting up a *** while out having a sociable drink. The world is going potty.

No problems like that occured in the other parts of the British Isles where the smoking ban has been operational for some time.

Good point!! Didn't think of that... I know it's working every where else with no apparent issues, but here (I don't mean Answers) tensions are already high. Think I'll stay in this weekend with a beer or three... Hopefully, it will be all peaceful and lovely!

yes i totally agree with you, this will cause arguments especially out side of night clubs and pubs , which could turn into violence, in my opinion there should be smoking and non smoking areas every where then every one has a choice.

NYC has had the smoking ban for awhile now, pretty much without incident. I wouldn't worry about it.
