how soon HIV affects you by producing AIDS is individual and highly variable, there is no set time. But from infection to detection can take as long as six months. The virus grows fairly slowly, and so can take as much as six months to grow enough to be detectable by a blood test. So, wait six months from your last sexual encounter to get a reliable test done. If you test positive, you cannot get "rid" of it, there is no known cure for HIV. Though treatments today are more and more effective in staving off the symptoms and letting you lead a fairly normal life. If you think you may have it, do the responsible thing and avoid intercourse until you are tested.

Once you are infected, you are infected. But sometimes it takes longer to show positive in actual test. As far as you are asking about getting "rid " of it. I am not sure what do u mean by that because you cannot get rid of HIV. You have to take meds after a while to suppress the virus and prevent some immune diseases.
