clearly, the best mexican restaurant ever is in Mexico somewhere...but if you meant in the U.S. try Rick Bayless' restaurants, Frontera Grill &Topolobampo, they are right next door to each other in Chicago so you can go to both. they are both excellent and Bayless is universally recognized as the best Authentic Mexican Chef in the U.S....(he lived and travelled throughout Mexico for over a decade)

The best mexican restaurants are usually not chain restaurants. The best mexican food can usually be found in local places owned and operated by hispanic individuals.

La Senorita in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Used to be El Chico in Tallahassee, Florida, but it closed. The masses don't like good Mexican food.

La Piñata is pretty good there is Locations all over the San Francisco Bay Area, There is one in Alameda, Hayward, San Leandro Newark, and concord. I go there all the time to celebrate birthdays and to just eat there. I don't know if it's the best though, best I have been to, so far

Lalo´s Mexican restaurant in Chicago And Monterrey Mexican Restaurant in South Carolina.. ( every time i go home to Chicago i go straight to Lalo´s and in South Carolina when i visit my sister, I go To Monterrey´s .. They are both sooooooooooooooo good)... I couldn't´t pick just one! Sorry...

In the city of Alameda, Ca there is this family owned place called Alcapulco. (On Lincoln Ave at Willow St.) It's not part of a chain. The food is fantastic!
