Read the signs.
We camp in Bear country, if you take precautions you can avoid getting bear in camp.
1st - clean up food, don't leave food waste laying around burn it in the campfire. Place coolers and such in vehicles or in FS provided bear boxes.
2nd you can tie food and such in a bag tie a rope on it and hang it in a tree (high up at least 12ft) and at least 100-300' from camp.
Take bear spray or a shotgun. Don't go into to bear country unarmed.

Bears have 7 times better sense then we do, they can smell food from 5 football fields away. Any food is safe, just take care of it properly. DONT leave anything on the ground, AT ALL! Hang your food 100 yards away from where you are camping, and high in a tree. Do not take any food into where you are sleeping. And finally, keep all food in something like an Action-Packer, once again away from where you are sleeping. If you do get visited by a bear though, have everyone blow a whistle, yell really loud, or use your car horn or air horn. DO NOT RUN!

Take anything you want just make shure you hang it downwind and well away from camp... doesnt really matter what you take Da Bears.. are gonna smell it they have one of the best noses in the world.... ive seen up tear into canned food so i know they can smell through that somehow... that or maybe just being curious about what the can was paid off.... either way... your best bet is to take what you want keep your camp clean of food and hang your food well away from camp try to have a seperate eating area from your sleeping area also this pays off big time when its time to go to sleep and your wondering if that cookie you had for a snack the night before is still in your sleeping bag with you......

Every kind of food product is attractive to bears. Just keep the food locked up or unseen so that the bears dont come and rage your camp site. And its not likely for a bear to come if its a public camp ground, but possible if your in the middle of a forest.

Unfortunately bear will eat anything humans eat and then some. On the plus side you can protect your food by ussing what in camping is known as a "bear bag" A description of how to make and use a bear bag can be found at

Depends on where you are going and how you store the food. Do not keep it in your tent or sleeping bag. Is there a bear proof place to keep your food. People who are mortally afraid of bears probably should not go where there are bears. That should be a no brainer.

I camp in bear country. ALL our food is suspended high in the air between trees. We don't even cook near our tent. A bear can easily smell even a pack of crackers or gum in a tent.

No food is safe to keep from bears - it is HOW you pack it to prevent bears from smelling it with their keen sense.
All food should be kept in air tight coolers, coolers with latches that would make it difficult if not impossible for bears to open. On the inside of the coolers the food itself must be stored again in containers, zip lock bags, what have you that prevent the aroma from seeping through. This is really the only way to prevent the bears from getting at your food.
Hope this helps.

Well no food is really safe to bring camping. What you could do is bring rope and a cooler. Tie the rope to the two ends of the cooler and hoist it up a tree then tie the remaining rope to the trunk.
