It's another name for a sub, or as they call 'em by you grinders. So a sandwich like they serve at Subway.

A hoagie is a sandwich, hot or cold, involving various meats, vegetables, and/or condiments on a long bread roll. It's a regional term, usually around the north, for what other parts of the country call: grinders, subs, submarines, po'boys, etc. All names for the same sandwich style. If you've ever been to a Subway sandwich shop, those are hoagies. They also sell them in the deli section of most large grocery stores.
