You can still become vegetarian and have your workouts, as long as you are replacing the proteins you were getting from meats. Beans are a good source of protein but they don't have a lot of amino acids and that is something you need if you are very active. Fruits and veggies have lots though. I would also introduce healthy fats in your diet, like avocado, almonds, walnuts, especially the black type. As the other poster suggested, visit a nutritionist, they'd be able to stream line a diet that will allow you to work out, keep your energy up and not drop weight.

Although I am no authority, I doubt it would make you pale. I would think an active person would have a healthy glow regardless.

I was a workout buff before I became vegan, and I have not noticed any difference in my muscle mass or my workout energy. In fact, I've noticed I'm becoming more trim and defined. As long as you get your protein from somewhere (so many choices, nuts, beans, legumes, soy protein, etc), you don't have anything to worry about. I don't feel as bogged down anymore either, like I did when I ate meat and drank milk.

I'm kinda pale as it is ... but I have tanned perfectly fine being outside this summer.

Go for it! :)

When I went vegan suddenly my energy level increased, probably because I was paying more attention to what went in my body. Make sure you eat a good breakfast, something like porridge and fruit, and eat enough vegetables and beans throughout the day to get your nutrients. Don't make the mistake of eating fries and iceberg lettuce with every meal- make your food count.
Really, I'd visit a nutritionist if I were worried enough, but I am feeling healthier than when I was omni, so I don't feel like I need to.

Carl Lewis won Olympic gold medals on a vegan diet. I have felt more energized on a vegan diet than when I ate meat. I think you will do just fine on a vegetarian diet, just be sure to do your research to make sure you are getting all your vitamins, minerals and the right proteins.
