Can your doctor recommend both diet and medication changes first? There are cholesterol meds out there that can complement diet and exercise.
Also, some insurance will cover a stress test if it is prescribed by a doctor. Depends on your carrier, check with them first.

well, it's not just butter and eggs, some of it may be hereditary. It doesn't hurt to start paying attention to those foods that lower cholesteral like have a bowl of oatmeal. Not the sugar ridden kind that advertises about cholesterol, but the old fashioned cook for a few minutes kind. Add some blueberries and wheat bran. One meal a day as a change, it might make a big difference.
It also sucks that your test is so expensive. There is something definately wrong with our country's health care system when what should be a routine test becomes such an investment folks do without.

I don't know what you are eating, mate? Try eating vegetables as they really help lower the cholesterol!! How can you be 40 points higher? Mine is 3.8 - 4.1 when I eat crap! Maybe I've got good genes? I haven't eaten butter in 20 years although I do like double cream occasionally. I take low fat milk, lots of veg and I eat salmon and trout plus tuna from a can? I have high blood pressure but my cholesterol is fine! My husband died recently so the blood pressure went up due to stress, what kinda stress have you got, 'cos it must be huge?!!!!

Does sound out of the ordinary. Do you have a family history? Do you have any chest pains? Do you have any heart murmurs? I would ask the doctor again and get a more clear answer for the testing. Good luck and yea, I'm 43 and would be bothered by that. Mines about 30 points higher than it should be and my doctor said, that's not bad, just watch what you eat. No biggy to him!

there is more to cholesterol than just what you eat, a good deal more, and that level is high enough to warrant concern, your doctor is being thorough in trying to find out if damage had already occurred so he can treat you accordingly. Suggest you do as he recommends if you don't want to die suddenly from cardiac arrest.

A stress test isn't going to show blockage anyway.
