My total cholesterol is 87. When I went into the hospital with my heart my total was 110. Yes - total. I think they give them to me because the survival stats are better.

70% of your cholesterol is produced by your liver the rest from eating. statins tell your liver to produce less cholesterol (huge oversimplification). different food can also stimulate your liver to produce more or less cholesterol, including caffiene, smoking, trans fats as in marg and saturated fats all increase cholesterol levels

Yea, satins make it easy to do U-turns under the sheets.

And!!!

Statins work too. They are a good choice, along with diet and exercise, to help control blood cholesterol levels.

They do help lower cholesterol. They are not so good for the rest of you though. If your cholesterol is very high >275 total cholesterol, or an LDL >200, the good outweighs the bad. If it is lower, and you have not attempted to lower it through a healthy diet and exercise, you could certainly try that first.

Yes. They lower cholesterol decreasing your chances of developing heart disease. Since you were hospitalized, I assume you have already had a heart attack or stroke. It is a standard practice now to prescribe them for secondary prevention of heart disease regardless of cholesterol levels.

Satins make nice, soft bedsheets.
