Hi there,
The fat that is in fish is known as Fish Oil which contains healthy Omega fatty acids.... These fatty acids are known to actually lower your cholesterol and maintain healthy arteries which prevents heart disease and stroke.
Transfat is not found in fish. It is an inexpensive fat that is added to commercial foods to improve the taste. Things such as Potato chips, Fast food, and Doughnuts are the big culprits.
If you have been keeping up with the News lately... there's lots of talk about the ban on Transfat... For example, New York recently passed such a law to keep restaurants from using this in their foods.
Tips to lower your cholesterol:
1. Exercise! Most important this actually lowers the bad LDL cholesterol and raises the good for you HDL levels.
2. Eat foods with healty fat: Olive oil, Fish, Nuts, Avocado.
3. Eat foods with both types of fiber, soluble and unsoluable. These include vegetables, beans, oatmeal, and fruits.
4. Limit your intake of high fat foods, especially bacon, hotdogs, ham, hamburger, and eggs.
5. Avoid stress, and get adequate sleep.
Good Luck,
Angie R.N.
