Hep C is a bloodborne infection. That means people get it from blood transfusions and needlesticks. It is extremely contagious and pretty hardy. There is a chance it may be sexually transmitted, so people are urged to be cautious with their sexual behavior if they have Hep C. There is not vaccine for Hep C

Hep B is also bloodborne, but it can also be spread during sexual intercourse. It is 100 times more infectious than HIV and can survive out in the open for up to a week. Many people contract it from sexual partners, but some people get it at birth from their mothers.

Hep D is similar to Hep B, but you can only catch it if you have Hep B. Hep D doesn't occur alone.

Hep A and E are foodborne. You catch it from eating contaminated food or ingesting contaminated seawater. Hep A is worldwide, but Hep E is usually confined to Asia. There is a vaccine for Hep A, but not Hep E.
