I am thinking about going on Xanax again for severe sleep deprivation ,

I will take LESS than even .25mg the LOWEST dose given I split this in two

Is this a reasonable dose. because I have been on it before and it works just not this low of a dose

But I think less than .25 mg (.12.5 mg) is more than reasonable and very safe

As a healthcare provider I would not order this medication for this complaint. I would order a medication indicated for sleep promotion: Lunesta, Ambien......there are others. Talk to your provider.

Xanax will work in the short term, but the downside is that it is addictive, so I don't consider it safe at all. Perhaps it would be much better to learn what is causing this deprivation and treat the root causes. Zanax will induce chemical sleep, and you may find you need more and more to achieve the desired result. Did your doctor recommend using this, or are you self-medicating. There are newer, safer drugs to help you sleep that are not addictive. See your doc!

i am prescribed 2 doeses of .5 mg of xanax a day. the first is to alleviate the negative side effects of my adderall and the 2nd is to help me sleep and it works great. it is the only thing that helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. i dont know if half a .25 will work well though. it may help you fall asleep but will probably wear off very quickly causing you to wake up in the middle of the night

The 0.125 mg dose is safe, but it might not be effective.

I would go ahead and try the 0.125 dose and if still not asleep after 30 minutes take the other half of the tablet for a complete dose.

P.S. To avoid confusion on dosing use a leading zero in front of the period.

wow .25 is very low of a dose. I would think as long as your doctor says it's OK your good but when i take 1.0 i don't even get tired... only if i take 2 of them.. for some reason 1.0 gives me energy like i could clean my whole house.. I've taken them for stress and panic attacks.

I'd sugest seeing if they will give you a sleep medication like ambien and not xanax if it's just for sleep reasons..

Follow the Doctor's order on how much to take.
You should consult with the Doctor about any changes.
Every person will react differently to medications and the dose.
You need to discuss doses and medications with the Doctor who prescribed it.
Good Luck.

Um, Xanax doesn't make me sleep at all. Maybe its just me. I am prescribed .25 and it doesn't phase me. Good luck.

half of a .25mg tab would be .125, not 12.5, and it would be totally safe, much like taking nothing at all....would be surprised if it was efficacious.
