Pour recommended dose on a spoon, open mouth, shove spoon in swallow, wence and shake head (reaction from nasty taste) take a swig of beverage of choice, wence again (nasty taste is still there) done!

Unless this is a trick question, most people just put the correct dose in a spoon and drink it down. Cough syrup usually has flavoring like wild cherry to make it tasty enough to just sip it down.

You can either pour the cough medicine (dosage is listed on back of bottle/package) into a spoon and swallow. Or some cough meds, especially children's, will come with a plunger-type syringe or medicine dropper with dosage on the sides, fill up the syringe/dropper to the appropriate dosage and squeeze into mouth. Easy peasy.
