Aldara doesn't work for everyone. You may need to go back to your doctor and and get a different treatment. There are several different ways to get rid of genital warts - Aldara is only one of them.
I used Aldara to get rid of my genital warts about a year and 1/2 ago. It took at least 4 - 5 weeks before I noticed any changes. In total, it took about 5 - 6 weeks for my warts to completely go away.
I'd suggest you finish your 12 weeks worth and if it hasn't gone away by then, you might need to try something else. Good luck!

Aldara (Imiquimod) is the best treatment on the market especially as it has the lowest recurrence rate (10%) of any other available treatment.
Aldara is supplied as a cream and is applied directly to the wart. It causes CD8+ and CD4+ cells to produce interferon-alpha, interleukins-2 and -12, all of which combine to help these cells destroy the wart. These cells retain their ability to attack HPV infected cells and thus reduce the chances of the wart returning. Aldara comes in a 5% strength cream; when used 3 times weekly in one clinical trial, it was effective in as many as 77% of women and 40% of men. In another study the results were slightly better, mainly because the cream was used daily. Everyday use, however, was associated with greater skin irritation, which explains why the thrice-weekly dose is preferred, though skin irritation does occur on the 3x weekly regimen, too.
The symptoms you described (rash) is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but it is most likely skin irritation. You should always let your healthcare practioner know when any new symptom appears while on treatment for anything.
Some warts can be resistant. I would finish the full 12 week cycle and if the warts are still present, you may need to look at more invasive treatments (with trained physicians) like CO2 laser, trichloracetic acid, electroexcision, scissor excision and fulguration may require local/general anesthesia. Low rates of complications if performed by an experienced physician. HOWEVER, warts often have a high persistence/recurrence rate, but more than 90% of patients with external genital warts experience complete clearance within 2 years with or without treatment...but just because the warts disappear does not necessarily mean the HPV has cleared. I know it's complicated!!!
Patients with later stages of HIV also tend to respond poorly to treatment.
PS . Aldara should be wiped off after 6-8 hours. Do you sleep for longer than that? If so, you may want to think about washing it off after about 7 hours and going back to bed.

See...you answered your own question! You don't need a doc! Your last sentence says it all - "I have been so stressed because of this." It is well known that stress can precipitate or worsen an outbreak of genital warts. This is completely normal. Is this your first outbreak? Aldara works well...it can cause some discomfort (burning) and irritation - frankly, your sensitive skin may become a bit "raw" down there to put it bluntly (bear with it!)- however, if the warts disappear 100% with this treatment - you have a very good chance of going years without another outbreak or not having another outbreak at all! Aldara has great stats when it works completely. Now, you will never be free of the virus so always use a condom/dental dam. Remember, you can still pass the virus even if you can't see any warts. So...you are normal - this is normal - try to keep yourself healthy physically and mentally to get over the hump of this outbreak! Hope this helps!

No sweetie a 12 pack should only last for 4 weeks. Use it 3 times a week. It takes a while for it to work. I have been using and it is leaving sores near the places that I have genital warts. I also had a rash- it is a very strong cream. It is normal for you to have this side effect.

There are numerous treatments to consider. Some patients who become reinfected develop a tolerance for creams and podophyllin and have to have the stubborn warts removed surgically by co2 laser or cryosugery. Everyone is different and must choose the best option for them. Wart removal can be a painful endeavor.
