Go to the grocery store and get these things-

-hotdogs
-buns
-mustard
-onions
-pickles
-relish
-soda
-cups
-ice
-marshmellows
-chocolate
-grham crackers

Go to a craft store or landscaping store and buy these -

-long wooden craft sticks

Now, put all the condiments out on the table and sharpen the sticks. Use the sticks to cook the hot dogs, and everyone can pile on their own toppings, then.. dessert! Same thing for the marshmellows.

Safety is the most important thing. Make sure you have a hose and a fire extinguisher, a ring of rocks or sand to keep the fire contained, its away from trees or dry grass, and seating that is sturdy enough not to tip over. (Big old logs, cinder blocks, chairs, etc.)

Once you have that taken care of, build a really good fire by starting with crumpled newspaper, twigs, bark, pine cones and small sticks, with larger sticks in a cone shape around it, and split logs on top of that. Top it off with a couple of big dry branches and have a pile of extra wood available to add on later.

Smores, marshmallows or hot dogs are great to eat, have little spears made out of green branches to roast the marshmallows on, and have the fixings for hot dogs. Lots of cold drinks and a few blankets. Be sure to have bug spray, but not in an aerosol can, because those explode near heat.

No decorations or anything are necessary, because a bonfire has its own magic. If you know someone who plays a guitar, have them bring it. Tell ghost stories or sing or just hang out. You don't really need to do anything, it just sorta happens.

Be sure to stay with the fire until it is completely out. Have a couple buckets of sand to pour on the ashes, stir it up to make sure there aren't any glowing embers, and douse it good with water before heading in for the night.

Have fun!

My son had a bonfire graduation party last year and one of the things that made ir most memorable was that he invited a few friends that played instruments (guitar and banjo) to bring them along. It was great, people would request songs and there was a sing-a-long. We also rented a popcorn machine and a cotton candy machine from a local party rental place, that went over big as well. Other than that, you've got it under control, burgers and hot dogs, marshmallow smore's, who coulod ask for more???

First check weather, enough kindling so people can add from pile to fire as and when. Safety buckets/water so when gets out of hand you can at least not burn your fence down before the fire brigade gets there.

Food potatoes, large suckling pig for roasting over said fire (but that takes longer than 4 hrs), large pan and cheese so people can do own fondue, marshmallows, sausages, bananas, tin foil, 2nd pan with liquid and make your own soup/stew.

Drinks whatever you would usually drink. Also a few cards with odd words/sentences on and go round the group telling a story and see who knows what words come out.

Hot dogs of course. Stuff to make s'mores ( graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows). Sticks to hold the stuff to roast it. Chex party mix. Chips and salsa. Soda or punch.
Tell ghost stories, play music, get sparklers and have contest 'who can draw the best whatever with the light from the sparkler'.
Have a great time!

marshmallows to roast and make smores, hot dogs to roast, some potatoes cut in half with some butter, salt, pepper, wrapped in tin foil and tossed around the outside of the fire so you can grab them with tongs. Garlic bulbs, cut 1/4" off top, drizzle with EVOO and a little salt, wrapped in tin foil tossed in around the edges, cook till soft then let cool and squeeze into butter then put on bread.mmmm. Music, boom box, etc.
