If you want to keep them fresh, don't wash them and put them in the back of the refrigerator on the lowermost shelf. That's the coldest part of your refrigerator, you can add a day or two to their freshness that way.

Barring that, you can wash them when you get them home, cut the stems out and cut them up and toss a little sugar with them. They'll keep much longer in the fridge that way and you can even freeze them.

I used to have this same problem! One thing you can do is not buy SO many, they are not something you can stock up on and keep it's freshness... then what you do is take them out of the little hole-filled box they come in and put them in a tight sealed container like Tupperware. OR freeze them, they last more than twice as long =]

To slow the spoiling process, stash them in the refrigerator immediately.
You can also make sure they're dry, put them in paper towel, store on top shelf

There are a few things that you can do to save them..

1) Do not wash them until right before you eat them.

2) Freeze them and eat them when you want them.

If they are really rip just do the following.

wash them before you cut the stems off. Wash and clean them as you use them: don't cut all the stems off the day you buy them. Buy smaller quantities, or slice and freeze half of what you purchase for smoothies.

Store them in a glass container (nothing else), and you can either freeze them or juice them.
