Angioplasty. A balloon is threaded up through the groin into the heart, and expanded in the heart vessels with blockages. The blockage is pushed to the outside of the vessel, hopefully opening the vessel to allow normal bloodflow. They are usually done to prevent a heart attack, or to clear the vessels after an attack.

There is no separate medical term as "Angio". Angio is derived from Greek -aggeion meaning (blood) vessel.

"Angio" - The term "angio" is a prefix form, which refers to blood vessels in medical terminology. Any suffix, which can be added like "gram," "plasty," "logy," etc., to form a medical word.
For Eg.
Angiogram means Radiography of the blood vessels.
Angioplasty means Reconstitution of the blood vessels.
Angiology means study of blood vessels.
Most commonly, the word "angio" refers to angioplasty.
Angioplasty, as I said above, it is reconstitution or recanalization of a blood vessel. This can be done by many procedures like balloon dilatation, forceful injection, or placement of a stent.
This is otherwise called as PTCA (Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary angioplasty)..
I hope u got the clearcut idea what is "angio."
