I would protect the bats. They are an underestimated species that are being destroyed due to misunderstandings and their fragile habitat preferences. I don't know if I would actually take time to, but until recently I was a member of a bat conservation organisation.

Birds are birds are dying due to trees being cut and cleared and we need to protect or wetlands over 200 birds that are down by 50% or more sad really.

i would protect the algae plants for they were the first life-forms to appear on Earth. If for some reason life becomes extinct, they would be there to evolve it again
