Fresh tamales are very good but not necessarily good for you. They masa is mixed with lard! Like I said, tastes so good but so bad for your. Well, not so bad is you limit how many and how often you eat them.

Depends on who made the tamales. I have eaten tamales that were 50% lard (delicious). Most of the commercially available tamales are high in fat. If you want a nutritous tamale you are going to have to make your own.

Fresh is always better, however the masa which is the grainy part that surrounds the meat is unhealthy. It is made with lard (pig fat). So if you choose to have one, limit yourself. You might want to check out the healthier food stores in your area, and check out the ingredient listings. Who knows, those ones may be a little healthier.

They aren't so bad. The mesa is made of corn, and the meat is lean. The only problem I see is any fat they use in cooking them.

I live in Texas and I get at least a dozen every couple of months. I eat mine with cheese, salsa and sour cream.

Homemade are the best ones for you. Really they are better than most things you get and certaintly better than the frozen ones.
