The rhythmical throbbing of arteries produced by the regular contractions of the heart, especially as palpated at the wrist or in the neck is know as Pulse.
Relation to Heart Beat.
When the left ventricle contracts it send a rhythmic flow of blood in the arteries. Normal range in adults may be taken between 60 to 80 beats per minutes.
In disease of heart e.g conduction defect it can rise >100 bpm called arrhythmias, or bradycardia if AV node has pathology, here the pulse will be between 59 to 60 bpm, others are pulsus paradoxus.
Hope this answers your question.

Your pulse is caused by your heart beat. You heart beat is caused by electrical activity in your heart. Your heart is what pumps the blood through your body, thus making your pulse. You can feel your pulse in your wrist and neck the best but can also feel it in multiple other places. You CAN have a heartbeat and not be able to feel a pulse if your blood pressure is really low or if you have "EKG changes" like PVC's and other abnormalities but this is getting really in depth.

The heart is divided into 4 chambers i e right & left atrium , right & left ventricles. Left ventricle constricts & sends the oxygenated blood into the circulation thorughout the body. Every time left ventricle constricts, it sends the blood in a wave into the arteries. This wave is palpable at the spots where the artery is superficial i.e. nearer to the skin. These spots are at the inner & outer margin of wrist, inside the knee surface, at the ankle on its inner surface behind the ankle bone & on upper surface of foot between big toe & the second toe. This wave is felt as the pulse.
The rate of heart beat ( pulse)increases with the rate of heart due 2 reasons like rising temperature of body as in fever & due 2 causes increasing release of Adrenaline in the body as during exercise as well as due to mental & psychological stimuli.

Hi Chechel,
In the normal persons, when your heart beats one beat, there is one pulse.
Pulse is the feeling of pressure in the arteries which is caused by the occurence of pressure caused by the pumping of left ventriculum of the heart.
But in the heart diseases, there can be other varieties of pulses that may not correlate to one beat one pulse.
