I can see you need more info..there was NO TUX RENTAL. the bach party consisted of going out to dinner and everyone paying for themselves except for kicking in 6$ more to cover the grooms dinner so the best man incurred almost no real expensed he also begged me to let he be the best man..and he truely thought that his GIFT was so great he begged me to open it BEFORE the wedding! we did not thinking of course that it would be bad luck..IF your friend left 5% tip in a nice r estaurant and RAVED about how "good" he was to the waiter wouldn't YOU clue him in? NOW lets see how this info effects the news answers!

p.s there was no baby shower and the only time you "shouldn't HAVE to get someone something" is when it 's common knowledge that you are poor..but if you can afford trips to cancun you can aford to spend MORE then the cost of a couple of margaritas for TWO PEOPLE at a once in a lifetime event! can't ANYONE SEE it as selfish, thoughtless and plain old cheap??Is there NO SHAME? I WOULD BE EMARASSED to give two people GLASSES! THIS WAS NOT some thing held in a back yard at a BYOB PARTY! top shelf drinking dancing and a buffet was supplied as well as admission to an aquarium! Maybe you didn't catch it the first time.. IT WAS THE WORST GIFT!! people with 1/15 the income did BETTER and they WERE NOT THE BEST MAN!!..lets stop hearing from people who leave a waiter 5% tip and justify it that"they don't have to leave anything at all" lets hear from some COMPASSIONETTE RESPONDIBLE people . FOR A CHANGE and iby that i don't mean SMALL change either

You have got to be kidding.... you actually have enough time in your life to be sitting there, looking up prices on what people spent on you for a GIFT and evaluating them on it??? When I got married, I expected NOTHING from anyone. I invited my friends to the wedding because they are my friends and I love them and wanted them to share in a very important part of my life.
Do you understand the concept of a GIFT for one thing??? Gifts are not mandatory and there should never be price ranges set on them. Some people can afford more than others.
You have no idea what anybody else's financial situation is. So what if he went on vacation. Maybe he'd been saving for it for years, maybe someone helped him with the expenses, maybe he was involved in a vacation club.... who knows, who cares?????
By all means, go to him and complain about his gift to you. That will give him a chance to see what an idiot you really are and realize maybe you are not worth being friends with.

Maybe he's always had someone to do the gift shopping for him and sign his name to the card. Nonetheless, you should thank him for the gift...he didn't have to get you anything.
Oh and BTW...since plates cost $100/ guest was a family of four expected to give you a $400 wedding gift, or did you cut them some slack if the children were under 12?
I can only imagine how much whining you'll be doing after the baby shower.

You accept it gracefully and thank him. He did not have to get you anything. Unless you have bouncers at the door that throw anyone w/o a pricey gift out he does not have to get you anything if he expects dinner. If you were not willing to spend over $100 dollars on someone w/o a pricey gift, don't have a party. The point of being a hostess is to show your guests a good time at your expense.

I would consider that there were probably other out of pocket costs associated with being best man (tux, bachelor party, etc.). Take these into account before criticizing the amount of money spent on a wedding gift.

It was your choice who your best man. You didn't have to pick him because he begged. Technically, people don't invite people to their wedding because they want them to give them presents, they invite people because they are friends and family that they want to share in this special time in their lives. Maybe he didn't give you the best gift, or maybe even the most expensive gift, but he was obviously excited to give it to you , and that means he gave from his heart. Take a good look at yourself, and what is most important to you. In a few years down the road the glasses may be gone, but I would like to think that you and your friend will still be friends.

You write a thank you card.
Ok, the guy's a bit cheap, but he must have a lot of good qualities or he wouldn't have been the best man. It would help if you focus on other things besides money.

Articles About Fishing Trips***Theres a very good site that covers all aspects of fishing, including articles on fishing charters. By the way, http://www.fishinginformationguide.com/charters is one of the few sites on the web where their articles are also in audio!

I wouldn't look to far into it...many guys are horrible gift givers- its just their nature, and that doesnt change the fact that he's a great guy. You should feel lucky to have such a great relationship with him...his slightly unthoughtful gift by no means signifies his love for you...its just the way guys are ;)

Be thankful for your gift and graciously thank your friend. My husband (and the rest of the groomsmen) got a 3-pack of blank VHS cassettes as a thank-you gift. I know it's not the same as your situation, but it's super-tacky.

haha, well... don´t take it so personally, probably as best man also had to go out of his way to be there, and probably spent more than he thought he would.
And guys are like that, well, most guys.
Just thank him for the gift.
Congratulations on your wedding.
