Just calm down and think about it, If your son is a type 1 then you should know a little about diabetes and stop flipping out. Call your doctor and get an apt. to be seen. It is possible for you to aslo be a type 1. (a non diabetic should never read over 140) I was age 29 and 118 pounds when I found out I had type 1. You could just be starting thats why you're 190-ish and not 800-ish as most when they find out they are type 1.
On another note some type 2's do use pumps.

If you're spiking up to the 180s-190s and staying in that range for 1-2 hours, then I don't think it matters whether you call it diabetic or pre-diabetic. Your blood sugar is too high and even in a dangerous range. Many blood sugar studies indicate that chronic blood sugar over 140 mg/dL damages nerves, blood vessels, and organs. Imagine if you're spiking like that for 2-3 meals a day. That could be 4-6 hours per day that you're above 140 mg/dL. Over the long term, that's extremely problematic. Regardless of whether you're technically pre-diabetic or diabetic, your first-phase insulin response is weakened or gone and your second-phase is a little impaired, but fairly functional. That tells me that, even if you are diabetic, you haven't deteriorated as severely as many diabetics are when they're finally diagnosed. You're more likely to preserve what function you have left by keeping the blood sugar after meals under 140 mg/dL and as close to 100 mg/dL as possible. Pancreatic beta cell death seems to occur around 140 mg/dL and perhaps even lower, so the disease will advance with the high spikes. You don't need to schedule an emergency appointment since you're not in immediate danger being that high; however, you should be prepared now to hear that you are quite certainly at least pre-diabetic and 7 points off from being diagnosed full-blown diabetic, which is within the meter's margin of error. Whatever the label, don't get bogged down in it; once the pancreas stops functioning properly, it's all diabetes. It's just diabetes caught early as opposed to diabetes caught late.

Don't freak out YET, but go to the doctor ASAP to have blood tests.
Both of my younger siblings have type 1 diabetes, and when I was growing up my mom was always so afraid that I had it too. She thought my numbers were a little too high and she took me for these tests a few times. I had a couple numbers like 112 before, but I've never had anything close to 193. Perhaps your body just didn't have the chance to regulate your blood sugar if you tested right afterwards.
Don't "freak out" and hope for the best. Good luck :)

I am not an expert but a diabetic as well. If you check your sugar less than an hour to an hour after you've eaten, it will be high. Check your blood sugar 3 hours after a meal- at that time it should be normal. If it is high then, see a doctor to rule out diabetes. DO NOT skip meals - this will drop your sugar or force your liver/pancreas to dump sugar into the blood stream and will throw you off. Low sugars are just as bad a high. Be careful and always keep a few hard candies in your purse just in case of low sugar.

My husband has type 2. The doctor said 150 is manageable but it should be lower. 193 is HIGH. You need to be checked. It doesn't have to be related to weight. Other symptoms are dizziness, unquenchable thirst, having to pee a lot, headaches, and feeling weak before eating. It can also effect your mood. You could also be on the other end of the spectrum which can be hyper or hypo glycemia. Get it checked. Sounds like diabetes though because your sugar is way too high. You should probably stay away from sugar.

Reading 193 after eating is normal. Normal healthy people can go up to about 200 after eating. The only readings that really mean anything are fasting blood sugar readings. If you read that high first thing in the morning then you should go see a doctor.

25 percent of all Type 1 cases are diagnosed after age 20.
And you don't have to be overweight to develop Type 2.
So anything is possible, but one thing is true, that high of a blood sugar is not a good thing. You need to go to the doctor.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.
I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

No not necessarily a type 1 to wear a pump. I am a type 2 and going to go on pump. But as for your other question, your physician should be the one who checks this out. Don't freak out, just call him, make an appointment and relieve your mind of the stress and worry of if you are or are not. I hope things work out okay, but don't freak out if you find you are a diabetic. With the meds and insulin that is out today, diabetics can remain reasonably healthy.

You know about diabetes and the diets to go by.With being Diabetic and not taking medication you can't let it get lower than 50 or higher than 200. You were very close and its time for test to be done. Living by a diabetic diet hopefully you will be like me and never go on medication.Certain foods and drinks will make it go very high then you start crashing fast. Be careful with what you eat and drink.Your doctor will give you a diet to go by.
