Here is a website with some lovely brown butterflies (http://members.tripod.com/~anapa6/ButterflyShades1.html) perhaps you should try to identify it. Don't be surprised if your butterfly is a moth and don't be too sad if it passes on soon animals in captivity (even one they have chosen) die sooner then their free counterparts. Take a picture of it for later memory and maybe even write a children's story for publication about the life of a small brown butterfly who lived in a room with a happy non-butterfly.

just leave it alone. dont capture it, tiny brown butterfly? are sure is a buttlefly? not a moth? some moths are very similar to butterfly. one the of the best example is Chrysiridia Rhipheus. this type of moth looks exactly like butterfly.
if you say "i wake up in the mornings and its sleeping on the door, sometimes it flies around and at night it sleeps in the same position on the door". i doubt it's moth, moth sleeps in the morning and comes out at night. opposite to butterfly. moth also attract to light. and normally, average butterfly is bigger than average moth.

well, i can tell you what NOT to do:

1. DO NOT suck it up in the vaccuum cleaner.
2. DO NOT let your baby brother try to eat it.
3. DO NOT try and kiss your butterfly..
4. DO NOT put it in a jar with an airtight lid..
5. DO NOT try and give it a bath.

Just leave it be. If it's been there every day and night, then don't count on it leaving. BTW, it probably wouldn't appreciate being shut in a cage.

I'm surprised that your lovely butterfly is still alive ... it must be mutual love.
