You can't prevent diabetes 1 but you can 2. Watch what you eat, lay off the sweets (including pop!!) and make sure you exercise!

Both of my biological parents have history of diabetes so I know, and even the doctors advise, that I have the risk of getting the condition as well if I do not maintain proper weight. I try to keep my BMI (Body Mass Index) at the average.

BMI is a measure of an adult’s weight in relation to height, and it is calculated metrically as weight divided by height squared (kg/m2). People with a BMI of 25.0 to 29.9 are considered overweight and people with a BMI of 30 or above are considered obese . Obesity are always associated with hypertension, diabetes, and other diseases.

You said you're getting bulkier day by day. You must pay attention to your weight if you do not want to end up getting diabetes. You can keep diabetes away by maintaining a nutritionally balanced, low calorie diet. Most health-care professionals and commercial weight-loss programs recommend diets consisting of 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day, usually in the following proportions: 60 percent carbohydrate, 30 percent fat, and 10 percent protein.

Caloric restriction alone will not produce long-term weight loss. While the data from studies on the effect of exercise for short-term weight loss are contradictory, research clearly indicates that regular exercise is the single best predictor for achieving long-term weight control.

Now, losing the excess fat and getting the desired weight should not be the end of the story. Maintenance is very important as you might quickly regain the weight lost if you're not careful. I know it's easier said than done as I was always giving in to temptation too when I was trying to lose weight. So I am taking a clinically proven "organic" diet pill to help me keep my appetite at minimum. It didn't only help me lose the excess fat but it is an aid in maintaining my desired weight. I got it online, you may check it out http://track.lativio.com/hit.php?w=110245&p=2&s=38

Cheers!

Well stop eating for few weeks. Ok, if you are serious about your health then don't smoke, don't allow yourself to get overweight, reduce the amount of sugary and fatty foods you consume, sweets, biscuits, cake, burgers, etc. Do exercise frequently, i.e. walk for half-an-hour each day, do housework vigorously, dance, dig your garden (or someone else's). Don't sit in front of the television for more than an hour a day. In other words, live a healthy lifestyle. If you feel you are experiencing any symptoms of diabetes then act promptly and get yourself a diabetes testing kit to diagnose at early stage. If you don’t know how to get yourself a diabetes testing kit, find it on this page below to monitor blood sugar. It’s always easy to control it in early stages.

It is just the other way around. A diabetes researcher friend of mine said, though, : You can never eat so much carbohydrates that they would fatten you - namely, people usually eat also fat like in candy, cookies, cakes -not the sugar but the fat -and eating the sugar on top of it all!!
If you go and search you will find about 50 answers already in yahoo concerning sugar and obesity and a similar amount almost on tooth decay and sugar.Go and look at those answers first. They will take you far!

My dad is diabetic, I'm not but I read alot about it. Its a tricky disease if I say so myself. It can be hereditary and you cant stop, only eat right and control it. Try and eat foods throughtout the day spreaded out healthy foods lot of baked, broiled. Try and stay away from fast foods. My dad went in the hospital with no diabetes, they say that a steroid he was given for pneumonia triggered it I'm not sure how true that is but different things play a factor in getting diabetes weight is one of them. Read up on it on the internet
