right now i have carpet and it IS NOT working. i have five big dogs and the carpet is cream; im sure you have a visual now. i watch hgtv alot and id heard about cork. however evrything ive read says that its not very scratch res. or very durable for high traffic ( i.e. big dogs and me- im in a wheelchair that weighs 400 lbs.) so is that true? from your experience is cork the best or should i look for something else? my 2nd choice would be porcelein tile or mabey vynal. i dont know. what would be my best option as far as durability and scratches? thanks alot.

The most durable around dogs is ceramic tile...it is scratch resistent and they will not dig it up like they will with vinyl.

When they talk about cork, that means it is normally put UNDER stuff like laminate flooring or fake wood flooring to give some cushioning under the flooring.

I'd recommend tile for large dogs. Tile is very durable and shouldn't scratch like other floorings will. I'm not sure laminate flooring would hold up real well. It might. After tile I'd probably recommend a commercial grade linoleum floor. Comercial grade linoleum holds up pretty good. But just make sure you get commercial grade and not just regular grade.

A good wood laminate would not scratch like wood does. If that is not an option I would go with the tile. If is extremely durable and won't scratch. It is extremely popular right now so there are a lot of options out there. It is expensive. Also if you drop anything breakable on it, such as a glass or dish, it is definitely broke.

We have 2 Great danes and a Golden retriever so I know exactly what you are talking about. We replaced our carpeting with laminate flooring and it has worked out very well. Much easier to keep clean and amazingly no scratch marks from those large paws. It's been 2 years since installing laminate and we've had no problems.

laminate is always good with dogs, it should never scratch or dent. vinyl is outdated and tile is a good choice but it doesnt go in every room. #1 for durability tho is tile, then laminate, also take a look at bamboo.
