Germany has historically sought a unified Europe. Prior to and during the First World War, Kaiserine Germany sought to create a unified European state, under German domination, which would compete with America and Russia economically and militarily. Hitler's views were simialr, except that his campaign of conquest encompassed not only domination of all countries in Europe (plus Russia), but also a continent-wide programme of extermination based on grounds of race and ethnicity.

Post-1945, Germany was one of the prime movers in the creation of supra-national institutions for Europe, from the Franco-German Oil and Steel Community of Europe (OSCE) in 1950, through the EEC, the 'Common Market', and on to the current European Union.

However, to suggest that Germany is seeking complete domination of the EU is a distortion of the facts. Like most other EU nations (the UK included), the German population and most of its politicians feel that Germany contributes more, and receives less, than any other states in the EU. The proposal to link EU voting rights to domestic population is an attempt by the current German government to secure more of a say for Germany in what they feel is an EU increasingly dominated or influenced by the competing claims of the smaller nations.

In any case, you're assuming that, if this plan was accepted by the EU, that voting in the EU Parliament would become dominated by the German 'block vote'. This isn't necessarily the case. Not all the German MEP's would necessarily vote the same way on all issues.

Overall, it's very simplistic - and xenophobic - to compare current German activities within the political framework of the EU, with the military and racial activities of the Nazi Regime.

Previous answerers have missed the point about the German proposal to have voting on European issues based on the size of population of a member country. Germany has the largest population and would by default have the most clout. The Polish unsurprisingly are unhappy about this as to a certain extent is the UK.

Nonsense. You totally forget that germany itself lost more lives to the war than most other european countries. That's not meant to excuse germanys actions, but without WW2, germanys population would even more clearly outnumber those of other countries.
Apart from that, any calculation of population that stretches that far is unscientifical.Simply assuming that population growth will stay the same over half a century is unrealistical.Growth of population affects things such as availability of jobs, prices of food, land, accomodation etc. which in turn would have back-affected population growth.
Btw. with a population of more than 60 million, Poland would have been overpopulated, it's agriculture cannot support such a large number of people, with even fewer space to farm on due to the bigger population.

properly, given what you have right here, i might say it would be very probable that Nazi Germany might have held Europe and consistent with risk the middle East. the priority is - Hitler's enormous hobby in life develop into attacking the Soviets - so that is annoying to think of him no longer doing that. even nevertheless - are you able to think of if he hadn't????? and picture that he traded with the Soviet Union as a replace of attacking them. Nazi Germany could have been a protracted way too solid for the U. S. to assault them and win. and we could have been making peace with Nazi Germany as a replace of occupying them. and then if Hitler hadn't persecuted the Jewish human beings, he might have had good good voters to assist out the war reason. some human beings do no longer bear in techniques, yet Jews have been in lots of cases squaddies - a competent type of them fought for Germany interior the 1st war - and that they might have fought for Germany returned - and consistent with risk Einstein might have given the atomic bomb to the Germans... yet whilst Hitler demonized the Jews, he decrease himself off from a number of his maximum efficient voters. Hitler extremely did shoot himself interior the foot - that is astounding how nuts he develop into. each and every thing develop right into a lie - yet he develop right into a heck of a infant-kisser particularly interior the years earlier he started out murdering human beings. in case you haven't any longer already, examine John Toland's "Adolf Hitler" - that is 2 enormous volumes - I wager you may get it used off of Amazon for type of no longer something. that's the kind of competent biography - has super previous pictures of Hitler some time past interior the 1920's. that's a brilliant thank you to objective to appreciate this very unusual guy. Hitler develop right into a tension to be reckoned with, and Europe had basically come via a terrible war - surely all human beings was hoping that they does no longer have yet another. And it develop into that desire that allowed Hitler interior the door.

Why not go back to the Napoleonic and Spanish Armada, do not forget the crusades, You will say do not buy Honda or Toyota for what the Japanese did, you must get reality, it was not this generation that carried out those crimes, or these leaders, the world must go on, to dwell in the past will bring nothing but hatred, you only have to compare the Al quaida morons and certain members of the Muslim faith, live and let live.

You may have a point. Certainly the Poles, who bore the brunt of Nazi atrocities seem to think so and I agree with them. The Nazis murdered thousand of Polish Army Officers who had already surrendered. The crime was uncovered years later by the advancing Red Army.

Right now, we in UK need all the help we can get. So I am very pleased to hear the Poles are as rude and openly spoken as I had been told they were.

I am always mindful of the enormous effort and sacrifice of the Free Polish forces here in UK during WW2 and in particular of the Polish Squadron Royal Air Force.

Meanwhile in Poland itself, the Polish people created the worlds largest civilian army of resistance ever in history.

Good for them. Keep up the good work Poland and always remember the famous word of Admiral Cunningham of the Royal Navy. "When the Germans are down, kick them in the guts."

Right idea!

no, no NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!
Nazis is short for Nationalists (or Nationalsozialisten) = people who think their own country is superior and who oppose all cooperation among equals. This is a trait that many right-of-centre minded people share, I'm afraid. By being so selfish and so full of hatred, they (if there's enough of them) ruin the chance of their country ever being successful, liked, well-off, welcome in the world trading community, and living with their rights protected.

Germany is home to MUCH less of this hostile nation-selfish sentiment than most other countries (and particularly so when compared to YOUR nearly-nazi views) - Bundesrepublik Deutschland stands for peaceful cooperation between its and other states forever. It does not seek to override other country's views or interests. It does not have the biggest cities of trade, nor the capital of the EU, nor many other things that might indicate where dominance might lie. It believes only in mutual gain through mutual friendship and cooperation. I wish YOU would feel the same.
