In my street there lives a young Irish man hailing from Belfast with the above quote displayed in his window, along with a picture of what I presume to be an IRA militant (balaclava, AK47...).

Now I fully appreciate that everyone is entitled to their views, but I think that, as we live in rural Dorset, England, his notice is a little provocative and hypocritical, as he earms a living in England. Does anyone think this is overstepping the mark?

Note: This is not meant to be inflammatory- I have visited the Emerald Isle twice and have found the Irish people to be blessed with good spirits and a beautiful land. I have several Irish friends who we share a joke with about my being English but there is never any bad blood.

He's living in the past, the Irish problem has been solved by both sides sitting in the Irish Parliament. So if there's any dissent, it can be settled by both sides voting on the issue. Have a good day.

oh dear
how young is he? as i fear he may not have an excuse for his behaviour if he cant remember the really bad times in belfast.

both my parents came from the over the irish sea, and my dad was from the north, and i dont feel like that, nor does most my age, but we are taught to remember, and make sure such politically bad times wont happen again.

can i suggest you invite the lad out for a pint, if your in dorset, there will be lots of nice pubs!

or maybe hes a bit lonely, and doesnt realise the affects of his poster, its not good in the current climate, and my family will be the first to say we dont want to be treated like scum again!

so, a pint it is then...

Please remember that Prince Harry did not mean to cause offence by wearing a nazi uniform to a fancy dress but nevertheless people were offended. He apologised profusely for his insensitivity. Perhaps this is a treasured poster he acquired from somewhere and he wants to display it.....or maybe he thinks it makes him look good...gives him some kudos. I suggest that you have a word with him or whoever he lives with and try to ascertain why he has the poster up....it may be up in all innocence and once feelings become understood...it might just come down.. please handle it carefully and sensitively.
Best wishes, Mike.

Re closeup's " Go IRISH, I am glad I am not the only one to hate the English although I live in the other part of the world "

How about "Death to the stupid, ignorant plastic-paddy scum who don't have a clue and have never set foot in Ireland in their lives"?

In my opinion this chaps actions seem a bit infantile. I wouldn't say he is a good representation of Ireland at all.

There seems to be an under class of quite thick people who take the darkest aspects of their history and wear it as some sort of badge of honour.

Report him to the local council or the police, it is enticing racial hatred, could you imagine if we had pictures of suicide bombers saying death to the bombers, there would be uproar from the Muslim community

I guess he is the foreign invader in this case. Kind of ironic isn't it.

This may sound insane, but bear with me,.... have you stopped to ask him exactly what his motto/slogan/quote is relating to? He may be referring to something you hadn't taken into account.

Maybe he's talking about (other wordly) aliens, or at least he's not of the invaders he's referring to.
