If you committed a criminal offence, they might be back in touch with you. It's standard practice for the police to take names and addresses of everyone they interact with on a continual basis, especially if they were dealing with a possible crime... should there be any other criminal offences uncovered at the time you were in the vicinity, they might want to contact you to clear (or charge) you with the offence

George Patton has the correct answer. No question an officer asks in an investigation is intrusive. It can however be unproffesional, as stated by george. If the officer asked your mothers bra size then it could be deemed unproffessional. If you have a problem with the officers conduct or feel there was a unproffesional question not relevant to your case, such as the one given as a example, then please call the officers local department and file a formal complaint. From the sound of it the only thing I see wrong may be the officers demenor. But it sounds pretty legitimate. Maniac cop also has a very good answer. (common law enforcement proceedure)

First, I did what I normally don't do and read some of the other answers before answering myself. Even if you were only detained for 5 minutes, if you were stopped from doing what you wanted to do by the police for 5 minutes, according to the law, you were under arrest for those 5 minutes. Anything you said can be used against you - even if they didn't advise you of your Miranda rights. This is why it is so important for people to realize that you are NOT required to answer questions from a police officer without an attorney present. You must identify yourself correctly - but past that, you should reply "respectfully, the 5th and 6th amendment to the constitution give me the rights not to speak to you without an attorney present and I choose to exercise that right". It may earn you a trip to the police station, but better that than to say something that will incriminate yourself later.

They take down your name and address so they have the information needed to write thier reports. Did they just stop you and ask you some questions cause thats not being arrested. They can stop and ask questions at any point they need to. They need the information to write the reports they need to turn in to thier boss.If you got no ticket then chances are nothing else will happen about it. They were just checking things out for some investigation they were doing.

If you got to go 5 minutes later. You didn't get arrested. To get arrested means you get charged with a crime, taken to jail and processed.
Chances are you were just "detained" for a moment, and they gathered some information which is common practice, and is absolutely nothing to worry about. You only have to worry if you did something wrong.

In my city, every time you arrest someone, even if you release them unconditionally, you must submit an arrest report. Name, address etc. is required for the report. You could have been put on file as "warned", in case it happens again.
To all those answerers above me:
You do not need to be charged to be arrested. If you are detained against your will (even without handcuffs) it can be considered an arrest. Not all arrests lead to charges.
