The New Catholic Encyclopedia states: “The formulation ‘one God in three Persons’ was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title the Trinitarian dogma. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective.”—(1967), Vol. XIV, p. 299.

Why The Encyclopedia Americana declares the trinity is falsehood?
In The Encyclopedia Americana we read: “Christianity derived from Judaism and Judaism was strictly Unitarian [believing that God is one person]. The road which led from Jerusalem to Nicea was scarcely a straight one. Fourth century Trinitarianism did not reflect accurately early Christian teaching regarding the nature of God; it was, on the contrary, a deviation from this teaching.”—(1956), Vol. XXVII, p. 294L.

I haven't the slightest idea what the 1967 edition of the New Catholic Encyclopedia has to say. It is not the official Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Bible does not contain the word Trinity. However, the Holy Trinity is hinted at repeatedly in both the Old and New Testaments.

Under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the early Christians prayed and struggled over these hints for a couple of centuries. The concept of the Holy Trinity (three persons in one God) was mainstream Christianity in 325 A.D. at the Council of Nicaea and our belief is expressed in the Nicene Creed from that council:

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. ...

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. ...

With love in Christ.

Read it more carefully. It does not say that the trinity is fictitious doctrine. it says that the doctrine of one God in three Persons is a doctrine that was not fully defined until the 4th century.

The Apostles understood that Jesus is God, the Father is God, and the Holy Spirit is God, but the doctrine of the trinity was not definitively defined until later.

This is all you need to know on the matter, if you are a believer or not. The concept of the Trinity is not accurate if you're looking at God as 3 in person or nature, but there are 3 parts to God's redemptive plan for his creation or mankind. There is one God, creator of all, who set out to redeem mankind after the fall. Jesus is a part of God's redemptive plan and the only way God could truly redeem or buy back his creation, there had to be blood for blood since all mankind was sentenced to death after the fall. So God who is total holiness had to wrap himself in human flesh (Jesus), "remember we are talking about the same God who spoke a word and everything he spoke came into being" and suffer the penaty that we were supposed to suffer, that is etrenal death. And because Jesus suffered our punishment got up from the cross and yet lives, we now live through him. Believe it or not all mankind has been redeemed, but not all mankind is saved. The price has been paid, now it's up to the indivisual to believe that the work is done. The next part of God's redemptive plan is his precious Spirit, referred to as the Holy Spirit, not seperate from God but his very nature, here to guide us in the way we should live and will get us back to our former position with God (before the Fall of Man, when we were one with God in every way. That's why Jesus said before he left, "when I go a comforter will come to guide you in all truth, without this comforter you cannot possibly know God's redemptive plan. So there is no trinity, just God and his redemptive work..And God will win in the end...

Okay, would you care to look at your own question again? The dogma of the Trinity is one of the foundational truths of the Christian faith. No Trinity, no faith. Does it make any sense to you by any stretch of logic that the Church that teaches this central dogma is going to turn around and declare it false in Her own encyclopedia? Is the bell ringing yet?

Apparently the authors of the articles you quoted were not Christians or did not understand the Trinity very well themselves. It does not bother me at all that the "early church fathers did not understand it.

"Trinity" is a term that is not found in the Bible but a word used to describe what is apparent about God in the Scriptures. The Bible clearly speaks of God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit...and also clearly presents that there is only one God. Thus the term: "Tri" meaning three, and "Unity" meaning one, Tri+Unity = Trinity. It is a way of acknowledging what the Bible reveals to us about God, that God is yet three "Persons" who have the same essence of deity.

Some have tried to give human illustrations for the Trinity, such as H2O being water, ice and steam (all different forms, but all are H2O). Another illustration is an egg having a shell, egg yolk and egg white, but this egg illustration shows that there would be "parts" to God, which isn't the case.

God the Son (Jesus) is fully, completely God. God the Father is fully, completely God. And God the Holy Spirit is fully, completely God. Yet there is only one God. In our world, with our limited human experience, it's tough to understand the Trinity. But from the beginning we see God this way in Scripture. Notice the plural pronouns "us" and "our" in Genesis 1:26 -- Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Though not a complete list, here is some other Scripture that shows God is one, in Trinity:

"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!" (Deut. 6:4)

"I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God." (Isa. 45:5)

There is no God but one. (1Cor. 8:4)

And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." (Matt. 3:16-17)

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." (Matt. 28:19)

Jesus said: "I and the Father are one." (John 10:30)

"He who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9)

"He who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me." (John 12:45)

If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. (Rom. 8:9)

"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit." (Matt. 1:20)

And the angel answered and said to her [Mary], "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy offspring shall be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:35)

[Jesus speaking to His disciples] "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you." ... "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him, and make Our abode with him." (John 14:16-17, 23)

The New Catholic Encyclopedia does not speak for the Catholic Church, no matter what they might claim.

Jesus established the doctrine of the Trinity.

Our job is to try to understand how it can be, and how it works ... and that's the only reason the matter was still open to debate for some 400 years ... and still is.

None of the sources you cite are authorative.

That is why we Muslims always pray to God Almighty keep us on the path of those You are pleased and rewarded by You. Because we understand our limits and can think beyond that limits.

History shows people are trying to prove How God look like? and how big He is? What is His status?
And still confused, Every now and then some one comes up with new theory and discard previous one. some says three in one, some says one in three, some says in multiple for multiple things and jobs.

But only those who some how got this understanding and wisdom to follow messengers and Prophets are most confident looking people on earth.

These people do not mix Creator with creations. That is main point.

He is Master, ask for His ( Creator /Master / Provider / Sustainer ) help. We will get answer, Insha Allah.

Otherwise we will witness so many encyclopedia with updates may be before the Day of Judgment pure human intellect approach will be able to find some kind of true answer, may be it will be too late.

May Allah give us wisdom to understand truth and keep us on right path, path of Prophets. Amen.

The Trinity is one of the deep things of God which needs to be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. It takes not a natural man but a spiritual man to discern this. Ask the Holy Spirit yourself whether it is true. I have no doubt it is.

1 Cor 2: 9,10 But it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ears have heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things that God has prepared for those who loved Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

1 Cor 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

properly, this quote does no longer state that the doctrine is fictitious and pagan. It does, in spite of if, element out that the doctrine grow to be slowly customary and assimilated into professed Christian existence at with regard to the top of the fourth century. it relatively is noteworthy for it of course potential that the 1st century Christians knew no longer something of a doctrine that taught there grow to be one God in 3 persons.
