Our cat is 7 yrs old and has been limping intermittently for about a month. After a week we took her to the vet who gave her an injection, pain killers and antibiotics. He couldn't see anything on the surface. However, after keeping her indoors for a week, she has started to limp again. If it was a chip, surely it would be a permanent limp? Not sure what to do next. Does anyone know what it could be? Many thanks.

Please take your cat to another vet for a second opinion. 7 years old is NOT old for a cat. It is possible that it is arthritis. Then again, it could be something much worse. Looking at the surface is not enough. An x-ray or a blood test is required. I went through this same experience with my own cat and my cousin's so I can sympathize. Please don't wait too long. The cat needs to be treated properly immediately.

Cats don't limp for no reason, there is definitely something that's not right with your cat. If one vet couldn't find anything then take her in to another one for a second opinion, I would, it could be a number of reasons, which you can't know by just looking at her. I would say that a complete Blood work should be done, instead of just guessing at it. So please see another vet.

Honestly, I would consult another vet. Maybe one with a feline specialty. It could be several things... a strain, sprain, spur, etc. Think about it... we wake up all the time and have pain in our shoulders from sleeping wrong. Know what I mean??? Ok, so, I would consult another vet. You can tell your vet or keep it to yourself. GOOD LUCK!!! Take care of your cat!!!

Sometimes their claws will grow into the skin--was he checked for this? My cat has had this and he always limps when it happens.

I agree about seeing another vet, maybe even a scan or xray to see if there is a problem.

If she's that old, it could be just arthritis. Most animals get that when they get old.
