Yeah, wait until that comes out but ... whats that, they are working on another new version, well lets wait for that ...
If you wait for the latest version you will always be waiting as microsoft rely on new versions to get more revenue. I would decide if you want \ need the new version and if not then stick with what you have. Vista is an OK product, but unless you have a real reason for getting it, it will be painful as some stuff doesnt work. This will always be the case with new Operating Systems. Also, bear in mind that it is unlikely any machines designed for XP will be capable of running Vienna (in the same way that machines designed for Windows ME will probably not run Vista).

Vista sound great and I want it ... I bought my current computer last year and tend to change every four to five years
..so I guess the next time I will use Vienna..
Its a good idea for Microsoft and individuals..for individuals the prices of computer are getting cheaper and cheaper despit more memory and so on and software freebies..
so people tend to replace their computers more often..
those that do this and next year will benefit from Vista ..just as I was abit late to benfit from XP...
For microsoft it allows them to roll out a program that the organisation can adapt or adhere to...ie. evolving their support structures for both the individual and business and
evolve their devlelopment base towards a wider objective..
Its easier to jump from vista to vienna because the development is that way than from xp to vienna...
But for businesses who cannot just buy up the lates t package and swap computers then its no good...but presumably most business who are thinking about investments may be timing the investment more suitable for maximum capability and returns and may wait till vista...
Also remember
Windows 95, 98 2000, xp 2003,2007 incremental by about usually 2-3years.................

Well, they had windows 95, windows 98, windows 2000 and windows XP with 2 to 3 years each. Not to mention windows ME in the middle of that.
But don't trust those two years. Everything has setbacks. And I think Vienna is just a codename for the project, not the final name.
Take Linux OS for example. Both Ubuntu and Fedora get new releases every 6 months. I go crazy trying to keep up with that.
A friend of mine is still using windows 2000 because he refused to update to XP. And every software he uses is compatible both with 2000 and XP. So for him, there's not much point in upgrading.

Well, isn't that the way it's always been. Why buy Vista, why buy anything?
I think the sensible thing to do, is to only buy when you really need to. I won't be upgrading to Vista (codenamed "longhorn") in a hurry. Who knows I might be using Windows *** (aka Vienna) in a couple of years.
The only thing that sticks out for those that want to be compatible is that it looks like "Vienna" will be 64 bit only.

I dont see many compelling reasons to get Vista now. Having said that, MS's time frame has been adjusted many times on "Vista". It was supposed to have shipped with far more features than it contains...And as long as 2 years ago as well. Don't hold your breath on Vienna keeping to schedule..But as I see it, it's a separate issue....

I suppose we should stop calling Windows an operating system.
If you remove the following components:
Internet Explorer
Windows Media Player
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender
NotePad
WordPad
Paint
Then you are left with the actual operating system. When you buy Windows you are actually buying an operating system plus other applications.

aero and other visual enhancements lol thats about it, otherwise i would'nt recommend upgrading until they come out with a new service pack for it or you will find out alot of your favorite programs will become useless instantly...
I bought it installed it, uninstalled it and put it away for the time being, needless to say i am running a top notch computer with all the bells and whistles so i had no hardware issues running it :)
