I like to hunt and wanted to see if people are against it or for it and why? I like to fish as well.
And if you are a hunter what do you like to hunt for?
I hunt quail, deer, turkey, and more.

I like the sport of it, but I agree. Its not for bragging rights. I eat what I hunt for.

I am pro hunting, and I will tell you why it is not only right, but necessary. What most vegetarians, and anti-hunters don't understand is the need for hunting in today's enviroment. Most places on earth no longer have a suitable ecosystem with a healthy balance of predator and prey species. In the United States for example, it has been national policy until recent decades to eliminate any and all predators from hawks to wolves to bears and lions. Nowdays, it is the general publics RESPONSIBILITY to hunt sustainably. Trophy hunting is another story. Because there is a signifigant lack of predators, human beings are necessary to control prey populations. So, is hunting cruel? I will answer that with a question: Which is more cruel killing an animal for food, or ignoring species that breed relentlessly such as deer and rabits until their populations crash due to overpopulation where disease and agonizing deaths from starvation are common? Don't believe me? Look no further than the snow goose populations of North America. This species overbred until they were literally starving on their own breeding grounds in Northern Canada. How did this species reverse it's perilous situation? By liberal hunting limits and regulations. There are several other reasons that hunting is important. First off, a good hunter should have the skill to kill an animal from a distance, and in some cases with out the animal even knowing anything was out of the ordinary. So once again, would you rather die outside when it is 20 below zero because you have lost all of your fat reserves, or would you rather die without hearing so much as a gun shot? Finally, most vegetarians do not even realize the damadge that their eating habits cause. For anyone that has ever seen the comparison between 200 acres of wheat and 200 acres of prairie, you should know, one is a monoculture where farmers will only allow ONE species to live, on the land that hunters help support and sometimes create, there is an abundance of life and the tolerance and encouragement of thousands, if not millions of species.

Hey Spanky, no need to protect me. I'm a lady and I'm all for hunting. Most natural predators of game is gone. Hunting is necessary to keep healthy populations. Furthermore, I love the meat. Sure, every now and then I get a yen for a thick juicy beef steak. But for the most part, I prefer deer and elk. And you'd think more of those health food enthusiasts would be pro-hunting. I mean, can you get more organic then wild game? Deer and elk have the same fat content that turkey breast has. What's not to support. Now, I despise trophy hunting, and it is illegal in most if not all states. You can't leave the kill and just take the head. Its not only illegal and wasteful, but I think it is immoral/sinful. You know, most hunters don't hunt because they want or enjoy killing, but rather because it beckons back to a less complex time. It takes us back to our "roots." I come from a family of hunters, and I will teach my children, my son and daughter, to hunt responsibly. The bible says that man has dominion over the beasts. I think that means good stewardship of all of God's creation. What kind of stewardship am I practicing if I let the deer and elk herds so overpopulate that they become disease infested, malnourished, suffering animals?

I have hunted since I was twelve and introduced to it by my Father*. My favorite is hunting cottontail rabbits with beagles*... I also enjoy hunting Grouse, Squirrel, Pheasant, Woodcock, Doves, Groundhog, Whitetail Deer, Turkey, Crows, Foxes, Quail*. I do not hunt bear because they are not plentiful and should not be hunted in Pennsylvania until they are plentiful*...Game is a renewable resource, however it can be decimated if over hunted if the population of certain animals is low*...No matter what you eat whether its vegetable or plant or meat it has to be killed before you can eat it*...I eat and give away the game I harvest*...

In my opinion hunting has a lot to do about skill. I realize there are people in this world that think that its just a bunch of beer drinking redneck’s out shooting Bambi’s and all that other stuff.
But in reality most of the time there is a lot more to it than that. Its about the scouting out an area and walking though the timber. Here is the part people who don’t hunt don’t understand a lot of it has to do with patience. I have seen videos on-line where people take their high powered rifles and start capping deer at 1500 yards over an open field I don’t really consider this hunting to me that is just killing animals.
I am for hunting in a balanced way. I have a great respect for animals and do believe that everything has a right to live. On the counter of that I have an inner need about once or twice a year to walk into a wooded area and drag something out of it. I do this in a humane way, and when I’m done I don’t strap anything to the hood of my truck and make visits around town. Yes, there are dumb hunters I can’t deny that, but I think bow and muzzle loading evens out the playing field quite a bit. That brings me back the whole skill thing. I can’t really think anymore on this subject so I’ll just stop.
Before I do though I will end with this, from the dawn of time Man has killed animal there are a number of reasons for this, but more often than not it has been for food to sustain life. True you could just grow corn and beans and stuff, but what are you going to eat in the mean time?

TOTALLY FOR IT!!!
Hunting is more than sport, its a way of life! I eat what I hunt, but I also pursue trophies. Putting a mount on the wall is a tribute to the animal, an excellent example of the species, its not disrepectful.
I hunt deer, ducks, pheasants, geese and last year got my first bull elk!

Hunting is our HERITAGE! If we didnt hunt, and went around hugging tree's all day, our ansesters would have starved, and got their a double s's kicked. I'm a big time hunter. I hunt deer, elk, bear, raccoons, coyotes, rabbit, grouse, turkey, etc.
and I trap fox, beaver, possums, skunks, mink, etc. I'm an avid fisherman too. It just a fun sport. Not for the killing but for the enjoyment of nature.

I have hunted most of my life. Started with rabbits with my dad when I was about 8. He taught me the basics and of course gun safety.
Then moved up to Antelope, Deer and Elk when I lived in Montana. Have hunted ducks and geese and froze my butt off.
Now just like to fish.
Shoot only what you can eat and catch and release most of the time.
Good question.

I am totally for hunting especially for rodents and as long as someone is not over hunting. I think those people that go out and just shoot anything they see do wrong.
It is like fishing, if you keep all the under sized ones, then soon there will be none at all.

I have shot predators because I have livestock. I deer and hog hunt for food, and raise animals to eat. I don't hunt waterfowl because it's too much work and duck dont taste good. All that matters is it has to be a clean kill either knife or gun

I don't personally like to hunt, although I don't mind a bit of amateur fishing for food.
I am ambivalent about hunting. It seems that wildlife often has a better life than animals bred for mass consumption. I suppose that hunting is OK as long as one eats the animal(s) that one has killed.
