Hepatitis is a viral infection that effects the liver. A and B ARE curable. Hep C is considered cured if you respond to treatment and retain a sustained viral response for 6 months which means the virus cannot be detected in your blood.
Hepatitis is more wide spread then HIV and has very few symptoms until it has just about eaten up the liver. Hepatitis can be spread by sharing dirty needles not only by drugs but by tattooos or body piercings if you had a blood transfusion before 1993 you should be tested, if you have a tatto or a body piercing you need to be tested.
If you have had multiple sexual partners you need to be tested. I think everyone should be tested considering we all just about have had some kind of exposure. I remember those air shots they used to give as a vaccination that is a way to contaminate others many of our vets came back with hepatitis.
Hepatitis is a very slow progressive disease and is THE main reason for liver transplants in the US.
Famous people with hep C Pamela Anderson, Christopher Kennedy, Areosmith lead singer Steven Tyler. Steven and Christopher have taken treatment for hep C and both are considered cured at this point. Pamela took alternative medication and her status is unknown to this poster.
