Not true. Many guys in the service have girl friends and wives.
Perhaps your friend in concerned that if you join, you may get killed, disabled--your private parts or your face blown off, get mentally ill because of the experience of killing or abusing others--post traumatic stress syndrome, be poor--low pay and poor housing, etc. Maybe this is why he says you may not get a girlfriend?

there's an old saying among those in the Navy: choose your rate, choose your fate. Be absolutely sure that you wanna do it BEFORE you join, and do your best to get into a rate that translates to something good in the civilian world, just in case you get out after one term.
That being said, I have never met a Marine or Sailor that had a hard time meeting ladies. LOL It's KEEPING a lady that can be troublesome. It takes a very special breed of women that can put up with that kind of lifestyle. I know, I am one. I was in the Navy when I was fresh out of high school, and now I am married to a Coast Guardsman. I have it easy compared to Navy & Marine wives tho. My man comes back after only about 3 months at sea.
wink wink - you should join the Coast Guard - unless you are just itching to go get on that war front.

That's not true! There are plenty of married marines out there! Plus there's a good majority of women who find man in uniform very attractive. ;-D
Probably the only obstacles you'd have is being on deployment and not in the United States. Your chances are somewhat decreased unless you go after foriegn women. Either the case, its not set in stone that you'll stay single in the military.
So no worries! Tell your friend to do some more research.

He is dumb. I'm serious. I am in the Army and stationed in Iraq right now. There are a lot of females here and most of them are attractive, so I dont think he knows what he is talking about. He may just be ugly thats why he cant get girls. Granted, there are not many females in the military compared to the guy ratio....but its possible to find a female. The are probably more single females then married ones. What does it matter anyways? If you join, you do it for our country, not to meet girls????

because you wont be home most of the time... if you're ok with long distance relationship and you can find a girl who would love you even when you're a way for months at a time, then good for you.
you may not get a gf but you'll get laid more

Is your friend the same age as you? While I was in the military, the vast majority of my friends were married or involved in a serious relationship. You'll have not trouble finding a girlfriend.
