There are no escaped big cats anywhere in Australia but you won't convince the gullible about that. In every case where a supposed big cat has been shot, it has turned out to be a large dog. Invariably the animal is dark - never spotted or striped and described as a "panther" or a "puma".
If it were a panther, a leopard, the spotted phase is ten times more common than the black phase so for every black sighting you would expect ten spotted sightings yet there are never any spotted cats seen.
There have been very few pumas in Australia over the years and I don't think there are any now. Soldiers arriving for various wars would be unlikely to bring pumas here, there wasn't enough room on the troop ships for a start.
Of all the big cats in Australia, the most common are lions which are in all zoos and circuses and various safari parks. If anything was going to escape it would most probably be a lion yet none of the sightings ever reports lions.
Don't worry about big cats in the Glasshouse Mountains or the Grampians or the Blue Mountains or anywhere else. They are not there.

This story has been around a long time and the last I heard it the Queensland tiger/panther/whatever was supposed to be in the Mt. Larcom district not far from Gladstone, but a long way from the Glasshouse Mountains. That was like 37 years ago, so it must be a pretty long-lived animal.
And even then it was supposed to have been left by US servicemen in the 39-45 war, so by 1972 it would have been at least 27 years old.

Hi.... I think they might be the tigers at Dreamworld.....Sometimes they get out and hang around in the Glasshouse mountains. Ive seen them. The panthers too, they escape from Penrith. Watch out, they have been known to eat people randomly!!
