Why do "religious" people seem ignorant?

like christians, mormons and other backwards or maybee not so enlightned people seem really contradictory and feel like sheeps to me, without a mind of their own?

if the priest says jump, why do they?

In order to believe ancient doctrines as they do, they have to totally close their minds. They cannot admit new ideas, new facts or new truths because these are almost certain to conflict with their ancient belief systems. As a result they are implacably hostile to them. This hostility in Christianity was at its worst in Medaeval times and led to what we now call The Dark Ages - the name says it all, a protracted period of no or limited human development driven by religion.

It is impossible to reconcile religious dogma with what we verifiably know from science and other disciplines. This does not stop the religious from trying though, and inevitably if you understand the truth from other sources you will find them backward and ignorant - as indeed this is what they are.

It seems like that to you because you don't have any real information. What you know has been given to you by someone else. Many Christians are very intellegent and think for themselves all the time. The backbone of Christianity is the concept of free will and making personal choices. It's not about following someone just because they have a title or are in authority. Christians are encouraged to learn things for themselves and make their own choices.

It's not just those you mentioned , more so those religions which you did not mentioned. In fact you can includes all religions and secular systems as well - they are all in the "same boat"

Those who are not are those with the mind of Christ as they don't belong to this world but yet are in the world; for their value and thinking follows that which is above.

It is becos Christians have a mind of their own and a good one at that, hence, they choose to commit their lives to God. Priests are God chosen to help lead His people hence what they say are respected.

Because they are. Religion teaches and advocates non thought and a closed mind. It had to or it wouldn't have survived.

Religion = control. These people have had religion drilled into their heads since they were old enough to understand spoken word. I feel sorry for them actually.

Many religions specifically preach to ignore facts, and knowledge. Adam and Eve were condemned for seeking knowledge. So some religions have it wired to be ignorant.
