I have 3 Hyundai's in my family '01 sonata, '05 elantra and '06 tiburon for myself, had no problems with any of them except regular maintenance , you will not make a mistake if you go for either one. Before the the elantra had a focus, 2nd week it was in the shop for 3 days, lost a lot of money on it by trading it in for the elantra but it was a good decision.

If you can afford it and want a larger car I'd definitely go with the Sonata, if not the Elantra is a surprisingly very nice car that's really not that small. You may also want to check out the Mazda 3 and Honda Civic, which are also very nice vehicles in that same price range. I prefer the looks of the Sonata to that of the Elantra, you may also want to consider the MPG as part of your consideration as $3 gas is here to stay.

Well of course the Sonata is better but if you can afford it.
As Elantra is a small family car ( Mazda 3, Civic, Corolla, Lancer, Sentra ), While Sonata is mid-size ( Mazda 6, Accord, Camry ( Here in Egypt Avensis ) , Galant , Altima )
The Sonata looks great.

It all depends on taste, really. How much do you want to spend? Can you afford less gas mileage for more amenities? I'm a fan of the Elantra (I own an 02 GLS) and my wife and I are asking ourselves the same question.
I personally love the Elantra, but you really couldn't go wrong with either car. Good luck

The new 2007 Elantra and the Sonata are absolutely flawless cars. Here at my place,Singapore, the taxis used are Hyundai Sonatas with a CRDi engine(diesel). Even the diesel is so quiet. If the diesel itsel is so very quiet then just imagine how the petrol will be.One day while travelling,I asked a driver how the car was he said it was a very good car to drive, smooth and would give about 10 km per litre. The Sonata is a very good looking car.But the only thing that dissapoints me is the interior.Well, the Elantra is also a good car.Definitely, both are good cars to own and drive. So go for the Sonata. The rest is up to you. This is my opinion. And if you are buying the Sonata, then pick black colour,it looks great.
good luck!!!!!!!

I will say both are good cars.infact all cars are good.
It all depends on ones budget.
a rich guy will say junk coz he will be driving a bmw or mercedes.or RR.
If they are junks why the authorities allow them on the road.
we are not the one to judge right.
v can only talk about pros and cons.dont give remarks as junks. Can anyone proof that a car is a junk.
