People do not like others who are so different from them. If some people think that their god-beliefs are central to their definition of being, they cannot fathom how others can not believe as they do.

This is a problem for these people because it causes cognitive dissonance, and the people will try and rationalize that atheists do indeed believe in god, or they worship themselves, and other inanities.

Some religions, such as evangelical Christianity, teach that believers have an obligation to convert others, to spread the word. These Christians also believe that people will go to hell when they die and suffer for eternity if they do not accept a certain creed. So much of the problem is that believers feel they are doing the right thing when they try to show others the error of non believing.

Christians and Muslims both (the stereotype, if not the majority) have a problem with people of other religions. The difference is a Christian will harrass you until you convert (or love and accept you until you see the light, like they ought to), while Muslims (the stereotype if not the majority) won't even bother with you because you're an infidel and killing you will get them into paradise.

And no, not all Christians and Muslims, and yes, people of other religions try to convert people. But I'm tired and at the moment, I don't care.

It is not a problem for me. I just hate to see someone go to hell, that is all. Nearly every person I have ever known who claimed to be atheist had a closed mind to anything that involved a spiritual relationship with a God. It is like they are not even open long enough to study the word before they decide there is no God. We are supposed to be tolerant of them, but what about their being tolerant of the rest of us? Nearly all are very closed minded in my own opinion. If they want to be an atheist, they are free to do so, but just do not blame me (I told you all out there that there is a God and you should repent of your sins and read your Bible) when you wake up at death in a place you would rather not be!
My Bible tells me to love everyone, not necessarily the deed, but to love the person enough not to want to see them go the way of eternal damnation. We are to love everyone. Period. So, all atheists out there, I love you with the love of God.
However, I hate to see you throw your life away. I am sorry for you.
By the way, all atheists I ever knew eventually came to belielve in a God before death, especially when death was right upon them. Let something really bad happen and what do they do? Most of them pray.

Some people have a hard time accepting that we are different. I am a catholic and have atheist friends, muslim friends, even a hindu friend, we just have to learn to accept people for who they are, makes life easier. I know others though that won't talk to certain people. No one knows the truth, it is in our hearts, so let them think what they want. Its as if they are scared that the atheist may be right so they don't like them for that reason.

Because:
1) intolerance is a traditional theist value.
2) it is emotionally threatening to risk having to admit that you & almost everyone else is crazy. Dealing with the logic of atheists risks causing this psychological meltdown.
3) In the case of christians, they forget that revelations tells them that the more non-believers there are, the sooner the wondrous rule of god can be instituted on Earth.

The last one is the funniest one to me. Their own beliefs suggest that more atheists is a good thing, but they never understand this.

I am a Christian and I don't have a problem with atheists as far as there personality is concerned. What I am concerned about is the belief that they have, it's not even my problem actually, it's theirs.

You see the belief of atheists that there is no God backfires on them. To be an atheist you have to know everything, and that includes the knowledge that there is no God, which ironically, they cannot prove. Therefore, assuming that they know everything and they have proven that there is no God then they are gods themselves because to know everything you have to be God. To sum it all up, atheism is philosphically flawed.

"The fool says in his heart, 'there is no God'" (Psalm 14:1)

To all atheists, God loves you and He wants all of you to know Him in a personal way, do not let your hearts be hardened with your own knowledge of who God really is. He is more than what our brains can think of.

personally, i don't mind atheists. i have read in the bible where it says that we are chosen, that not everyone will find the narrow gate, and that to offer pearls to swine is not a worthy pastime (and no, i'm not calling atheists swine). i can only focus on trying to live according to His word and to support my fellow Christians in their walk towards the light. it's like that part in scary movie, where the signs say "death" and "safety". we all laughed when the woman chose "death", but that is the response of many people every day.

God's message has to be heard, so i'll talk about it and what it's done in my life. but if the message is not received, i'm not a hater - i'll shake the dust from my feet and move on...

I think you mean why the christians have a problem with others being an atheist ....... well, in the matter of fact, MANY christians have problem with others being other religion or even other denomination other then their own ...... it is something like what George Bush Junior said : "Either you are with me, or you are with SATAN" ......
