In Malaysia, we have:

Durian, aka king of fruits - a thorny-shelled fruit with yellow flesh inside. Stinky yet so tasty! Either you love it or you hate it. You can eat it on its own, or have it in your coffee, desserts like durian crepe, cakes or eat it with rice.

Mangosteen, aka queen of fruits - seasonal fruit, usually available when there's durians. It's a purplish fruit with white flesh. Sweetish.

Jackfruit - a large fruit with a lot of yellow pulps inside. It's fragrant and is used a lot in Thai desserts.

Buah salak - Usually wild, as locals believe spirits live in the trees. Has a scaly, snake-like skin and white flesh. Smells al ittle like jackfruit but no distinct taste. But for some reason I can't begin to understand, I seem to like it!

Rambutan - Usually red or green hairy skin, with firm, sweet translucent flesh inside. A bit like lychee, but better, I think.

Ciku - About the size and shape of kiwi fruit without the hair, it's sweet and juicy. One of my favourites.

We have lots more, like pomelo, guava, langsat, mata kucing, etc. Come visit and enjoy our local fruits!

Durian is definitely an exotic fruit. Is the fruit of trees of the genus Durio belonging to the Malvaceae, a large family which includes hibiscus, okra, cotton, mallows and linden trees. Widely known and revered in Southeast Asia as the "King of Fruits," the fruit is distinctive for its large size, unique odour, and a formidable thorn-covered husk. Its name comes from the Malay word duri (thorn) together with Malay suffix that is -an (for building a noun in Malay), meaning "thorny fruit."

Akebia is the name of the fruits from either of two climbing shrubs found in China, Korea, and Japan. Although appreciated in their native regions, the fruits are rarely cultivated. Each tree produces clusters of one, two, or three greyish, purplish fruits that resemble small bananas in shape. Those of the A. trifoliata can reach lengths of five inches and burst open when ripe to reveal semi-transparent flesh containing numerous black seeds. The flesh, which has a faint flavour, and the skin are edible. In Japan, the seeds are removed from the fruit and stuffed with miso and other ingredients. The whole thing is tied up and lightly fried. As what often happens, it is the filling, not what encases it, that is tasty. The dried leaves of the plant are used in teas.

Lanzones is also another example of an exotic fruit. Lansium domesticum is a species of fruit-bearing tree belonging to the family Meliaceae. It is native to Malaysia and Indonesia. This tree is now widely grown in tropical regions for its sweet fruit, known variously as the langsat (Malay), lansa, langseh, langsep, lanzon, lanzone, lansone, longkong (Thai), duku (Indonesian) or kokosan. The skin is yellow to brown and often spotted, with a smooth and waxy texture. When peeled away, it reveals separate slices of sweet translucent meat, which contains bitter seeds that are not eaten.

The Rambutan is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae, probably native to southeast Asia, and the fruit of this tree. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits including the Lychee, Longan and Mamoncillo. It is believed to be native to the Malay Archipelago where the name quite literally means 'hairy'. although its precise natural distribution is unknown. In Costa Rica and Nicaragua, it is known as mamón chino.

Durians are interesting fruits. You need a sharp blade to open, the smell is atrocious.

i just came back from the philippines and one particular fruit even some filipinos from manila didn't even know about is one called Mahrang. Native to southern philppines and you open it up and all these fleshy white seeds are in it..very sweet!

litchi (lychee), longan, dragon fruit, rambutan, sapote, mangosteen, durian, jackfruit, toddy palm seed, passion fruit, custard apple (gerimoya), starfruit, achee, guava, breadfruit, etc. Yummy! Can be found in asian supermarkets, fresh or canned (some of them at least).
