It has had about $7000 put into rebuilding the engine (parts only) but still has quite a bit of restoration left on the body & interior.

Hard to say without seeing it, but, you can look at other sites and see how much they are getting for comperable cars. Another good source is Hemmings Motor News. Good luck with it.

Realistically...can you even buy proper gas for that thing?

You may look at what return the market will bear, and the value will also be a function of who and how well the restoration is done. I can't imagine a car like that, parts like the interior alone are obtainable, or even available.

One of my frined out about 60K into an earlier 60's muscle car only to find out the car was only worth about 27K tops.

I own a 1983 911SC Targa, and have about 40K invested, but realistically, the car is worth tops, 22-23K, but its my hobby, and I enjoy it, and I don't look to make money off it down the road selling it, if I do.

Just like investing money into a house, whats important to you, may not translate into finacial reurn to another buyer based in market values, suply and demand, who did the work, and what was done. Cars are rarely if ever a good investment, and don't let TV auctions lead you down a road which may be very painful at a later date. Markets tend to change like the wind.

Good Luck!
