Salvation comes through the invitation of God.
When God withdraws the invitation because of continued rejection, there is nothing in a human being that could naturally incline him towards God.
When God shuts the door, no man can open it.

Good question. Depends upon your interpretation of the Bible. It is my understanding that once you blaspheme the holy spirit enough times (you would know, conscience would tell you) the holy spirit quits "bothering" you to repent. When that happens, you have no conscience, if you will, about it and so never would repent. Then you are lost with no chance of repentance and thus not forgiven. If you repent of it before the holy spirit leaves you, it is my understanding you could be forgiven. In any case, the blasphemer will know when/if the holy spirit leaves him alone, he would not feel any desire to repent anymore. Only once I knew someone who stated he knew for a fact that the holy spirit had left him alone and he stated emphatically that he knew he had blasphemed once too many times and was lost for good with no chance of forgiveness. It was a very sad look on that person's face and I remember feeling very sorry for him. He said he could tell the moment the spirit left him alone.

I read your profile.
I believe you have come under the influence of a lying spirit.
The very fact you show interest is evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit in your heart.
God will never compel you or force your will.
It is a spirit of witchcraft that blinds the mind to the truth of the cross. This was what had deceived the (Galatians 3:1-3)
Take another look at the cross.
God hanging on a cross for you sins.
He didn't do this to condemn you.
He did it to save you.
Jesus said "whoever comes to me I will certainly not cast out." (John 6:37)
His invitation still stands:
"Come to Me...." (Matthew 11:28)

Christians are forgiven forever by God (Hebrews 10:12) when they confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and then the Holy Spirit comes and lives in them forever (John 14:16). Christians are not forgiven of their sins by what they do except to confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior but by grace. The sin of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit applies to those who were under the law where God forgives them of their sins by what they were required to do under the law. Christians are forgiven of their sins by what Jesus had done on the cross. Sins committed by Christians do not affect their relationship with God because when they committed sins they were not in Jesus but in their flesh. God relates to us in Jesus with our flesh or old man crucified in Christ. Their sins however will affect other people and this is why Christians are commanded to forgive one another as Christ have forgiven them (Luke 17:3,4; Ephesians 4:32; Collossians 3:13). Christian cannot in the Spirit blaspheme the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3). If the Holy Spirit lives in us forever how can we ever lose God's eternal forgiveness for us and our salvation?

This type of sin is related to what we read in Hebrews 10:26: “If we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left.” So there is a deliberateness or willfulness about this kind of sin. One callously sins, fully aware of the fact that he is going directly contrary to the operation of God’s spirit and His righteous laws. Furthermore, we all are sinful and need Christ’s ransom sacrifice to obtain forgiveness. But “there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left” for one who knows that and “who has trampled upon the Son of God and who has esteemed as of ordinary value the blood” he shed. That one “has outraged the spirit of undeserved kindness with contempt.” (Heb. 10:29) He will never repent and humbly seek God’s forgiveness for his sin and rejection of Christ’s ransom. He is beyond repentance.

Nevertheless, the mere fact that it is possible to sin against the holy spirit should put us on the alert. Being imperfect creatures, we unconsciously sin daily. If one is cut to the heart and truly repentant over his sins, then that is evidence that he has not committed the unforgivable sin. How important it is, then, to maintain a humble spirit, admitting our errors and seeking God’s forgiveness. (1 John 1:9; Mic. 7:18) And recognizing that eternal destruction will be the lot of those who are “guilty of everlasting sin,” the sin against the holy spirit, we should strive to avoid making sin a habit or denying the evident operation of God’s spirit.

There is no such thing as a sin that can't be forgiven. If you truly realize that you've done wrong and really do want to repent then God will forgive you.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is an unpardonable sin, but it's not really clear what, exactly, that entails. However, once done, it cannot be forgiven, and I think, so far, only Satan has ever successfully done it.

I think it depends on what's in your heart. God is understanding and loving and merciful. But not to those who disobey him.
But if you did not know much when you blasphemed, I'm thinking God will understand because you said it not knowing if God was real or not. But if God reveals himself to you in some way and then you reject him, knowing the consequences, then you may be f*****.
God will not pop out of the heavens just to prove he is real. But through the Holy Spirit he reveals himself to man.

Trick question. There is no god. There is no "supreme being" to forgive anyone for anything. It's all nonsense stacked on nonsense.

And how in the world do all these people who answered the question as if god really existed, have any idea what "god" is thinking? Can't see god, god doesn't speak to anyone, yet all these people seem to know EXACTLY what god is and what he will do. I guess when it's all imaginary, you can make up anything you want.

If you're Christian, Jesus tells us in the Gospels that God forgives ALL sins...one must just ask for forgiveness. Jesus tells us that God WANTS us to love Him. He WANTS us to feel near to Him and to love Him. He loves us so much, He doesn't want anyone or anything to come between us and Him.

That, after all, is why He sent His son to us...so He could be among us and show us the way back to Him.

Peace,
Ann
