If it is a puppy and you have him neutered before he starts lifting his leg most likely he never will. If he has reached maturity and has already started lifting his leg then it is too late and neutering will not change it.

Some dogs do it and some don't. You should have got a female. Neuter asap. This does not always help. As my male got older he didn't lift as much but, he still does once in a while. He likes to pee on plastic bags so we make shure to always pick plastic up around him. When you see him smelling an object then going besides it thats a good sign he is getting ready to lift. I think my male learned when we started yelling at him right before he lifted.

He's a dog! If you didn't want him to lift his leg, you should have gotten a cat!
Or am I missing something here?
Anyway, some behaviors you can modify -- for example, I don't allow my dogs to hump people. But leg-lifting? I'd be afraid that the urine would dribble down the leg, and then it'd be a bigger mess to clean up than leg-lifting.
If you are talking about marking, then a firm "no!" every time the puppy does it should help -- that and neutering. Oh, and take the dog out for lots of walks where he can mark things up freely.

I learned that the hard way! Your pup needs to be neutered ASAP! Once they reach their sexual maturity at 6 months old they will always "lift the leg". Trust me!

The only way is to neuter him. Believe me, if you don't you will have a harder time training and he will mark his spot everywhere. I have a 7 year old dog that is in tact, and he marks his territory everywhere and gets hormonal. Get it done!

No, no way to stop him from lifting his leg. And why would you want to do that anyway?

I have a male dog also, and rarely he won't life his leg, but
most of the time they do, and I don't think there is anything
you can do to prevent it. Males just do that.

Hehe, I don't think there is they lift if they want to and they don't lift if they don't want to. I'm sorry you can't stop him from doing that.
