I don't see why not, just remember it's their roof, their rules. I'd hope mine live with us until their schooling is done, but that won't happen if their not walking a straight line.

Yes, I'm 23 and live with my parents. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do for my career. I work and support myself, but I do live with them.

Today's society is tough. My Fi and I are looking for homes right now. Seems like the average mortgage for a $250,000 is almost $1700 a month. That's crazy, almost 2K. At 23, I do not have 2K every month.

I'm trying to get established in my career and get some money saved. You can't do that if you are trying to pay rent, utilites, personal expenses, etc, etc.

You're fine.

Sure. I don't think a person has to move out just because they turn 18, 19, 20, etc. As long as you are going by your parents rules and helping with the house work. If you are working or going to College. If your parents on the other hand are ready for you to move out, that is a different story.

Yea, I do. I'm a college student, there's no way in hell I could support myself if I moved out. Besides, there's no "magical age" when all of a sudden it's not ok anymore... You can live with them as long as they're willing to let you lol.

As long as you're not sitting on your butt 24/7 playing PS2 or something, it's perfectly ok. By 20 yrs old, you should be working and getting ready to move out on your own soon though. But before 21, it's very very hard because landlords don't want to be responsible for underage drinking or loud parties, or anything like that (they can be very stereotypical and presumptuous about young adults in their building), plus it's really hard to get credit and they check your credit score when you apply for an apartment.

If you're a college student, I suggest you get a student credit card with CitiBank or something and start building your credit and get/have a decent paying job (no McDonalds or CVS) and start building up a savings in the meantime. If you're not in college, still try and start building up a savings and see if you can get a credit card somewhere (don't even bother with Mastercard, Visa, or Discover if you don't have a credit history, they'll deny you and it will look bad. Get a "secured credit card" if you need to).

If you move out before you're ready, you'll likely to end up getting evicted or starve, plus you'll be under a LOT of stress, which isn't good at all. My boyfriend moved out of his parents' into an apartment when he was 18, and he struggles really hard to make ends meet every month (between rent, car insurance, car payments, food, cell phone bill, internet/cable bill, credit card bill, electricity, water, gas, and more). And he has a GOOD paying job too!

Contrary to popular belief, it is VERY hard to live on your own and you will probably need to lean on your parents at least a little bit for a long time until you get on your feet. Don't feel bad about it and don't let anyone put you down for it or anything (I know there's a certain "stigma" about living with your parents and a longing to be on your own and all).

Don't move out until your ready and know you can handle it!! Or else you'll regret it and end up moving back anyway. I suggest you keep track of all your monthly earnings, and if you can't earn at *least* $1400 of "disposable income" each month to cover bills and such, it's probably not even worth trying yet. (Or even more if you smoke, like to shop, buy expensive stuff, etc). Keep a list of everything you will need to pay for if you lived on your own and figure out an approximate amount, keeping in mind what I mentioned above: rent, car insurance, car payments, gas, utility bills (water, gas, electricity), cable, internet, telephone, cell phone, credit card bill, food, clothes, household items, bus fares, toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc), laundry, and anything else you can think of.

Good luck!!!

its ok if you are a student or if you are at least paying rent. My sister lived with my parents until she was 24 but she was paying rent and part of the utilities while she put enough in savings to get her own apartment.
