She was living in another state, and she said she had to move because the Dianetics people were after her. So we drove thousands of miles to help her repair her home to sell it and help her move out. She kept talking about the "new owner" and what he wanted done. Then she said her son bought the home. We ended up wrecking our car while we were there. She came to our state and stayed for a few months and then moved to another state where some relatives live, then moved back to where she lived before, with her son. She does not like our "home" state for some reason. She has also in the past told us that aliens are walking around posing as humans and she has a detector to tell the difference. She took us to the Scientology Church while we were visiting her, and believe me, it is scary. There are people walking around and around the block with walkie talkies or something. Now she says her body is covered with a fungus. Is that possible? She changes her name all the time.

Your sister-in-law is obviously mentally ill. Talk to someone in your county's social services department. They deal with these situations on a regular basis.

Fortunately, she doesn't sound destructive, just odd. Don't change your life drastically to accommodate her mental disorder. It only gets your family all aflame.

Hopefully she'll be able to live a productive life with proper supervision.

Though I do admit the Scientologists are scary, I think your SIL has issues with paranoia. I am surprised her son (since he is old enough to buy a house) has not tried to get her the help she needs. Is she your spouse's sister or your brother's wife? If she is your spouse's sister, the two of you should talk to the rest of the family to try to talk her into getting evaluated.

This happened with a friend of mine's sister. They lived so far apart from each other (one in Alaska; one in Arizona) that no help was given. The "odd" sister just got more and more paranoid. She also sold her place, bought another place where she felt she was being watched. She left the second place and traveled around (trying to get away from the people following her) and spent over $50,000 with hotels and traveling. Last I heard she is back living in the place where she imagines she is being watched. From the things she says I know that she could be dangerous to someone who she imagined was going to hurt her. The family has done nothing and perhaps this poor woman could have been helped with medication or therapy. Now she is to the point where she trusts no one; not even the family any more.

It sounds like schizophrenia. You should read up about it on the net. However, the problem is serious and will probably only get worse so you have to go and see a psychiatrist for the correct diagnosis. They can prescribe medication which can help her cope with her life again.

SURE SOUND LIKE SHE IS LOOSING IT! I WOULD THINK SHE NEEDS SOME SERIOUS HELP!
THE DELUSIONS SHE IS SUFFERING WITH SOUND LIKE PARANOIA AND POSSIBLY SCHIZOPHRENIA.
I WOULD MENTION YOUR CONCERNS TO HER. A MENTAL HEALTH EVAL IS WARRANTED. FAMILY CAN DO SO UNWILLINGLY IF SHE IS A THREAT TO HERSELF, ONLY THEN...
I WOULD STEAR CLEAR OF HER! BUT, YEAH, SHE IS FAMILY... HOPE YOU CAN GET THINGS SORTED SOMEHOW! MUCH LUCK.. YOU NEED IT!
