Perhaps it was an "omen" to my limited success at finding full-time work as a pilot, but my very first flight as a commercial pilot was an emergency of sorts. The rotor wheel on the alternator had broken off and I had an electrical failure in a C-172. The battery eventually went dead so the fuel gauges went to zero (hmmm???) the radio didn't work, there were weird noises coming from the engine cowling = so I diverted to an abandoned military airport and landed (unannounced) on a taxi way - I was soooooo happy to be on the ground. I thought it was maybe a fuel related problem - I couldn't even think straight. The company sent out a "rescue team" and they found the problem. Welcome to the world of flying.

Quite a few.
1) Emerg landing at Gibraltar, lost engine oil on an engine.
2) A Tug reversed into the radar nose and twisted the nose-leg 180 degrees also snapped the towing arm in two.
3) Burst all 10 tyres in a landing during a monsoon.

In an MD-11 waiting to depart Moscow for Bangkok with Thai International in early Feb 2006. As the engines were starting there was a bit of a bang and the cabin lights went out. We were told that a fuel valve or something with the fuel system had blown, and were stranded on the tarmac for a few hours while the problem was fixed.
I was fortunate (?) enough to be sitting in a window seat next to the problem engine (number 3 engine) and watched the mechanics as they drained the wing tanks and replaced the part. Huge plumes of black smoke were blown out of the newly repaired engine when it was restarted.
The scary part out of the whole thing was that the tank was initially drained onto the tarmac, and tractors were trying to push mounds of snow over the fuel to stop from spilling onto the nearby taxiway.

We left Newark and the pilot announced our radar went out. He returned to Newark right away(this was only a 200 mile trip,so we didn't have to dump fuel,),the radar was replaced, and off we went,arrived destination about 1/.2hr late.
Take notice,nothing described here, resulted in any injuries (or worse) it speaks well for an industry that has an outstanding safety record.
Other than that,I guess my suitcase falling off the cart is the only other serious mishap I've ever been involved in.

A snack truck smashed into the wing of a plane I was on. We had to transfer. The APU lit on fire on the ground, and the only thing in-flight was a VERY close call on a paralel aproach with traffic at

It wasn't much of anything but I once was on a AA 727 taking off from New Orleans. The plane was close to top runway speed as we were barreling towards take-off. Instead of take off, the pilot got some sort of false indicator light and he aborted take-off. He applied full breaks and reverse thrust and we were all thrown forward in our seats. Not at all what we were expecting at that moment.

Had a few. Failed engine once. Precautionary landing once or twice. I fly for a living so every six months in the simulator we always get fires...failed landing gear(s)...smoke in the cockpit..stuff like that

i once left the door open, didnt realise untill about 200ft, not too bad but as a 2hr student it was scarey enough at the time!

Yes, I have had everything from engine failure to flat ties...It does happen, but never once did i think " oh crap i'm dead".
