Yogurt could help,if the itchiness is caused by a yeast infection on his skin, and it's a very good food for a dog;I've always fed it to weaning puppies, and they never get diarrhea. My older dogs like it,too. It wouldn't hurt to try.You can also give Benadryl at the dosage of 1 mg.per pound, twice a day for itching, bathe with an oatmeal shampoo, and apply an athlete's foot powder, spray,or cream, containing Miconazole,2%,to the itchiest part of the skin. ( or you could use Monistat cream). You could also try adding a fish oil capsule (1000 mg.) to her food twice a day,and a cooked egg once a day. ( I have done all of these things, with my vet's OK,also have looked in the Merck Veterinary Manual) Keep the cat food away from her.Try these things for three weeks and see if there's any improvement. If your dog is scratching to the point of making itself bleed or causing severe hot spots, you really should see a vet.
Also, what kind of food are you feeding? You should feed a good food with meat as the first ingredient, and no corn, soy or wheat ingredients.

Yogurt may be a little beneficial, but not necessarily. While yogurt is considered a dairy product, the process of fermentation required to make yogurt turns the lactose in to lactic acid. Therefore, dogs - who are usually lactose-intollerant - do not have to injest nearly as much lactose as other dairy products. Yogurt carries bacteria that help digestion and sooths G.I upset. Unfortunatly, the bacteria are generally killed in the environment of a dog's stomach. Let's face it - any stomach that doesn't get irritated from eating 2 wk - old trash is going to withstand a little bacteria. If you're looking for a probiotic, you can try something like Fortiflora - nonprescription from your vet. It contains encapsulated bacteria to ensure they make it through the acidic environment of the stomach to actually do some good. The only time you're really going to see any good come from it is using a glob with diarrhea caused by stress or the use of antibiotics. If all is well, there is no point in adding more life.

You need to find out what the dog is allergic to. Yogurt isn't really going to help with itchiness.. It's good for the stomach, builds up the good bacteria.. But it's not something that will get rid of allergies.. You should feed a good quality dog food, provide lots of clean fresh water daily, and put a tsp of Bragg applecider vinegar in each bowl of drinking water. That will do far more for allergies than yogurt will.. Don't get me wrong yogurt won't hurt, but it's not going to get rid of allergies.

One of my dogs has sensitive itchy skin . Whenever she goes to the groomer the groomer sprays her itchy areas down with a hydrocortisone spray with aloe. This works great on her skin. If she is too bad we give her Benadryl and this stops the itch so she doesn't break her skin by scratching. Also we use an oatmeal shampoo on her to soothe these areas.

Don't give your dog yogurt. Dogs usually have trouble digesting dairy and actually the allergies could be caused by food. Talk to your vet before you give your dogs anything that you are not 100% sure he can have!

They sell a spray that conditions the dogs skin... My dog gets itchy if even one flea jumps on and then off of him. He even loses large amounts of hair... I would suggest conditioning his skin and finding out what he is alergic to.
